2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Re: None of the 30 players who attended Thursday’s camp at Ohio State received offers from the Buckeyes, but some of them did receive offers from other Football Bowl Subdivision schools that were in attendance, including Rutgers, Akron and Kent State.

The top prospects in the group currently touring the United States including cornerbacks Jairo Faverus and Richard Agyekum, who both hold offers from Penn State (among others); defensive linemen Hugo Klages and Tyrese Owusu-Bediako, whose offers include Cincinnati and Florida Atlantic; and tight ends Roberto Miranda, Maximilian Mang and Viktor Wikstrom, who have all received offers from Eastern Michigan. Miranda also holds offers from Cincinnati, Connecticut and Georgia Tech, among others.

Interesting article, I'm sure in the years ahead you'll see more and more foreign players playing NCAA football, etc. just like in many other NCAA sports....

You think they’ll take four WRs (plus Styles/Martinez) again?

It’s going to be interesting to see what they do at WR, because they have so many elite guys feeling them right now. Ballard is in, Harrison should be by the end of summer. They’d never turn away Egbuka, and Blackwell recently named is his leader. Then you have Styles as a top 100 legacy kid.

That’s not even mentioning guys like Collins, Neville and Crowdus.

awesome to see you include Parks....the best player i have ever seen in person, unbelievable talent.....just not too sure he can keep his nose clean to get an offer....if he could, this kid would be a Rondale Moore type of a player!!!

no stabbing was involved....he did knock a guy out, and went to juvie....obviously all the details when dealing with a minor can get skewed a bit, but can confirm he was and is still paying the price for that incident....my only hope is he has learned from this and can move forward productively. I know he will be playing this year, if he stays clean, he is probably the best player in the state.
just an example....in one game, he caught a TD, had a rushing TD, kick off return for a TD, punt return for a TD, and threw a TD pass!!!!
he's a play maker for sure, and before you throw out "level of competition", i would bet Cade Stover would agree with my assessment of Parks

2021 HOT BOARD: FIVE KEY PROSPECTS RYAN DAY, OHIO STATE ARE LOOKING TO LAND FOR THE NEXT GREAT RECRUITING CLASS

106632_h.jpg

Things are coming together quite nicely.

Ryan Day is still over three months away from the early signing period for the 2020 recruiting class. And while we continue to keep a close eye on the running back pursuit as well as the other areas of need, we're also paying close attention to what Ohio State is doing for the Class of 2021.

Yesterday's commitment from four-star linebacker Reid Carrico wasn't a total surprise even though the state's No. 5 prospect had talked about waiting a bit as he considered Ohio State, Clemson, and his other options. Still, the addition of the Ironton star is another big-time win for Day's next great recruiting class.

The class is up to five commitments – all of the four- and five-star variety – and checks in at No. 3 in the country. To give you an idea as to just how talented the class is: Carrico is ranked as the nation's 126th-best prospect with a .95 rating—and is the lowest-rated member of the Buckeyes' class.

An argument can be made that Day and his staff now have secured four of the biggest needs for the 2021 class. Jack Sawyer is the best defensive end in the country and could be its top prospect regardless of position. Philadelphia's Kyle McCord will help replenish what will likely be a depleted quarterback room. Ben Christman is one of the top offensive tackles in the country and Carrico is one of the very best defenders.

We're still a long way away from things being finalized for the 2021 class. The early signing period is over 15 months away and we're about a year and a half from February's traditional signing day. But things are coming together quite nicely for the Ohio State coaching staff.

It's a little too early to put together a full recruiting board, but with several key components already in place, we look at five more names that could help take the 2021 class to new heights.

EMEKA EGBUKA • ATHLETE • STEILACOOM, WA • ★★★★★ • NAT. RANK: NO. 9

TONY GRIMES • CORNERBACK • VIRGINIA BEACH, VA★★★★★ • NAT. RANK: NO. 10

DAMON PAYNE • DT/OG • BELLEVILLE, MI • ★★★★ • NAT. RANK: NO. 39

MARVIN HARRISON JR. • WIDE RECEIVER • PHILADELPHIA, PA • ★★★★ • NAT. RANK: NO. 54

DONOVAN EDWARDS • RUNNING BACK • WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI • ★★★★ • NAT. RANK: NO. 61

Minor NCAA infraction delaying Ohio State in new contact period
We’ve been talking for months here at Lettermen Row about the importance of the Sept. 1 date for the Ohio State class of 2021, because it’s the date that Ryan Day and his program could finally respond to the young men around the country who have been waiting to talk to coaches more regularly.

Those players and the Buckeyes will have to wait a bit longer. Lettermen Row has learned that as a result of a minor NCAA infraction, Ohio State is unable to contact the majority of 2021 recruits until Sept. 8, with a handful of recruits needing to wait until Sept. 15. Which players have to wait until Sept. 15 are not known.

According to sources close to the program, Ohio State self-reported minor infractions involving on-campus photoshoots and recruiting itineraries. Schools around the country are not allowed to share professional photoshoot images with recruits until Sept. 1 of their junior season, and there was some confusion about that rule because programs are allowed to text kids and their families while they’re on a campus visit — but cannot send them the photos they took during that time. That’s why the majority of photos shared on social media from 2021 prospects in Columbus look like this:
