2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Henderson? Grimes? What else — as far as serious doubt?

It’s not that I don’t feel Ohio State has a good chance at landing anyone on that list, I just think using the phrase “great shape” leaves things open to be interpreted incorrectly.

I’m sure I’m just over analyzing, but my personal opinion of being in great shape would be Ohio State leading and another school having to blow said player’s doors off to overcome that.

I don’t necessarily agree agree with “great shape” on a few of those names.

Tuimoloau and Latham definitely.

Though Steve definitely knows far more than me, so I digress...

If you're thinking Egbuka and Grimes specifically I agree. And I agree with Birm that you can't really count J.T. until he visits. Seems like this years class has more tight-lipped kids than usual ( J.T., Wheaton, Hall until he committed out-of -the-blue ). But don't sell yourself short, your list is right up there with all the click bait guys.

I’m not sure I’m adding anything new here, but it’s just fun to reflect on where this class looks to be heading at the moment, with a best case (but also solidly realistic) projection of:

Jack Sawyer, SDE, #2, #2
J.T. Tuimoloau, DT, #4, #1
Emeka Egbuka, WR, #7, #1
Kyle McCord, QB, #23, #4
Donovan Edwards, RB, #33, #3
JC Latham, OT, #35, #5
Derrick Davis Jr., S, #44, #2
Donovan Jackson, OG, #45, #1
Jakailin Johnson, CB, #57, #4
Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, #60, #8
Jayden Ballard, WR, #77, #14

Jordan Hancock, CB, #85, #6
Mike Hall, DT, #91, #8
Reid Carrico, ILB, #96, #3
Ben Christman, OT, #101, #14

Troy Stellato, WR, #126, #21
Jager Burton, OG, #153, #8
Jaylen Johnson, S, #376, #19
Sam Hart, TE, #391, #17

Throw in a second RB from:

Evan Pryor, RB, #84, #5
Corey Kiner, RB, #155, #10

And you probably add another LB, DB, DL for a total class of 23, looking at players like:

Tony Grimes, CB, #6, #1
Tunmise Adeleye, SDE, #31, #3
Barrett Carter, OLB, #53, #4
Marcus Bradley, DT, #180, #11
Kamar Wilcoxson, ATH, #267, #19
Devonta Smith, CB, #431, #29

Crazy good.

A ridiculous class ... but also very realistic.

The overall class rating (according to 247 Composite) would be 322.85, which would undoubtedly be the #1 class in 2021. It would also be Ohio State's best class ever (beating the class of 2018, which had a total of 317.06 points), and would rival Florida's 2010 class (324.62 points) as the best in CFB history.

The above class (as currently ranked) would have four 5-stars, eighteen 4-stars, and two 3-stars, with 16 of the recruits being in the top 106 overall prospects. The average ranking per recruit would be 95.36, definitely an Ohio State record (beating the class of 2017 - Chase Young, Jeff Okudah, J.K. Dobbins, Wyatt Davis, et al - which had an average of 94.59), and to the best of my knowledge a CFB record (by a pretty wide margin, by the way).

Of the 14 uncommitted prospects, 11 have at least one crystal ball in favor of Ohio State, and the other 3 have no crystal balls whatsoever.

So ridiculous and realistic ... and still with room for a couple of reaches and late bloomers.
