2020 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

The best part is tsun fans reciting this like a mantra to convince themselves all is well with Jimmy.

The slight incongruity between the on field results of the two practitioners of this dark art aren't mentioned as much (or are rationalized by other elements of the DFBIA canon).
Give Clemson their laughers at QB and let me know how many titles they win. Bryant was a rich man's Shea and they got obliterated in the playoffs

I’ve been thinking about OL recruitment this cycle and keep coming back to a good feeling about how the staff has handled things so far considering the glaring need for depth and the precedence Day would want to set as the new guy at the helm of the states flagship university.

You are sitting pretty with Johnson and Wypler as elite, early verbals each with clearly established positions as outside and inside players respectively.

Then you lock up guys 3 and 4 who are both in state, and have good upside. James looks like an outside guy but could move inside too and Leroux is a definite outside guy.

So now it’s mid March and you are sitting at 4 guys with 9 months until the December signing period to get your crosshairs on guys 5 and 6 coming from a broad national pitch. This makes a whole lot of sense to me.

Keep a close eye on the 2020 prospects visiting between now and the Spring Game, as several of them will most likely be wearing the scarlet and gray next year. Kids on commitment watch include Lejond Cavazos, Marcus Rosemy, Henry Gray, Brian Branch, DeaMonte Trayanum, (EDIT) Reece Atteberry, maybe Cameron Martinez. I imagine that Darrion Henry and Jaheim Thomas will show up sometime soon, and they should also be added to that commitment watch list.

The big targets with upcoming visits will be Julian Fleming, Kendall Milton, Clark Phillips III, and Turner Corcoran. The Buckeyes definitely trail for Corcoran (Nebraska); probably trail for Fleming (Penn State); and need to hit a home run with Milton who is interested in just about every big name program at this point; ditto for Clark Phillips III.

I’m trying hard to be objective and not a homer but I can’t shake this fealing that Day is going to really connect with recruits just as effectively as Urb just in a different way. Something tells me this first class could really shock some folks. If the team has some solid results on the field, with Fields........look out.

And, from my angle this staff looks like they are very solid recruiters in their own right. I mean......Hartline looks like a major player right now. I think the package that Hartline, Yurcich and Day can sell has the potential to be lights out.

I’m cautiously optimistic. Kinda share some of your feelings as well. Trying not to say them out loud.

I'm the same. They have a good nucleus so far in the class to build from and to showcase to other recruits, but it ultimately comes down to on-field performance and if Day can keep the train moving w/o Urban.

If OSU continues to show that they are the top dog in the conference and are in the mix for another CFP birth at the end of the season, I think the staff will continue to erase doubt from fans and elite talent. Perception and momentum often shapes the following class, so as this season goes, the class will go.

So Thomas got his offer this weekend. Serious question, did the slow play of Thomas jeopardize either of the other two 513’s relationships? Certainly created reasonable opportunities for them to travel the country and see what else was out there.

I guess we’ll see where things go, but was wondering what y’all think.

I don't think it will have any impact. If they choose OSU it will be because it is the best for each of them individually. If they don't, it won't be because of the timing of Thomas' offer.

I still think OSU is the favorite for all three. Thomas seems the most likely to commit early but I don't think it would automatically mean the other two jump on board too. I think they want to see what OSU looks like this fall.
