tOSU Recruiting Discussion

2014 is the last small (restricted) class.

And, FWIW, the class of 2015 in Ohio has more players that flashed as freshmen than either the 2014 or 2013 classes (arguably more than those two combined). Granted, that may not mean anything by the time they are seniors, but it's a promising start for Urban's 2015 class.

Is that actually the case? I thought that tOSU got notified of the punishments too late to apply it to the 2012 class, so 2013 is the first small class, 2014 and then 2015. I believe it was 3 years, 3 scholarships per year. I don't know how the timing actually works out, I remember that USC took a few years to get started on their schollie limits.

The first limited scholly year is indeed 2012-13 per the NCAA report.

Care throwing some names around?

In any case, it'll be nice to have a NC (or two) by the time that takes places.

anyone else noticing that almost every visitor from the 2013/2014 class has named scum their leader after visiting there but only a handful have done the same with OSU after leaving Columbus? Am I reading too much into that?

Lack of talent on SCUM means more playing time for incoming players. These recruits know they will have to wait behind great players at Ohio State.

These guys were varsity starters and performed quite well for good programs (all measurements from last season):

Steven Clark 6-5 260 DT/OT Alliance
Matt Jones 6-3 290 C Hubbard
Tyree Kinnel 5-11 175 CB Huber Heights Wayne
Reggie Rodgers 6-1 170 S/QB Akron Firestone
Larry Scott 6-0 200 TB Hubbard
Jordan Thompson 6-2 240 DE Cincinnati La Salle
Mike Williams 6-3 270 DT Alliance

Several others really made a name for themselves at major programs for the JV and in spot duty with the varsity, and should really explode onto the scene as sophomores. Again the above listed athletes may or may not develop into OSU-caliber players, but they should be among the names you should track in the years ahead.

2014 QBs Debate

Adam Bertke
Deshaun Kizer
Kyle Allen
Drew Barker
Will Crest
Caleb Henderson

Out of those 6 who has the highest potential? Whos is the most likley top QB target?

I know Henderson really impressed at FNL and Castel said he heard coaches say he looked the best and Told him he was the #1 QB target but he still doesnt have an offer

Bertke is a guy who i think is a sleeper, 6'6 running QB with a cannon and accuracy and won a state title as a sophmore

Barker plays alot like Tebow but Meyer compares him to Alex Smith

Henderson is like Andrew Luck, big, mobile except Hendersom has a cannon

Kizer os alot like Swoopes

Kyle Allen seems like the odd man out to me, West coast kid, Small, slow and average arm

Maybe a longshot but Buckeye braintrust is also looking hard at Joey Duckworth 2014 from Louisville, Ohio

I'm going to lock Jimmy Byrne and Marcelys Jones into this class and I project them as interior players. So how many true tackles are the Buckeyes looking at landing?

Any of

Jamarco Jones
Damian Prince
Orlando Brown Jr.
Braden Smith
K.C. McDermott
Donell Stanley
Quenton Nelson
Alex Bars

would be outstanding.

How many of that group do we have a realistic shot of landing?

It looks like the need at tackle will be filled with flying colors in 2014, I just hope that the team can continue competing at an elite level until these guys get on campus.

Thoughts, Wade or others gurus?

(p.s. you have to feel bad for a guy like Kyle Trout because even if the Buckeyes only have a realistic shot at two of those players, which seems likely, that is some serious competition for that offer)

As of this moment, we are looking really good for Brown. Further, I feel we look good for Nelson and Prince, with a fighting chance for Jones (although I feel he is leaning ND/scUM). The rest I doubt we have a real good shot at for the moment.

I really think we need an OT in the '13 class though...we really can't count on Lisle alone at tackle. As an aside though, I would personally project Byrne at RT despite his height.
