Game Thread tOSU @ Minnesota, Nov 15th @ 12p ET, ABC/WatchESPN

Playing in the [Mark May]ty weather you are used to is an advantage -- having heated benches while the other team does not is bush league, in my IMO.

Maybe OSU should ban the visiting team from having fans and water coolers during those late August 90 degree games?
But the University of Minnesota isn't banning heated benches for the visitors. We're simply not going to spend money on an amenity for visiting teams. You mention water coolers and fans but the visiting team typically bring those themselves, therefore the home school would have no power to ban them.

Enough about the heated benches, I'm sorry I brought it up. Let's face it, it's a none issue for the most part. I'm certainly not trying to ruffle feathers on here, I'm a guest and I realize that.

I think it's required, it's required for the lower divisions. I don't see why the FBS would be any different.

2014-2015 Host Operations Manual

SIDELINE HEATERS/COOLING FANS
In the event of extreme temperatures, host institutions should provide sideline heaters/cooling fans for both teams.
The cost of renting the heaters/fans can be included as a budgeted expense.
If the visiting institution chooses to rent its own heating/cooling equipment, the host institution is no longer
expected to provide such equipment for the visiting team.

Thanks for that info, I wasn't aware. However what you posted clearly says the host institution SHOULD provide heaters and such, it doesn't say they're required so that wording is a bit odd. I haven't heard a single visiting team complain about not having heated benches the last 6 years since TCF opened though.

Mark me down as someone who doesn't think the weather will offer any advantages to either team. It's not like Ohio State is coming up from Texas or Florida and they've never seen cold weather before. Even JT was in Columbus last year, not Texas. It might be the coldest Raekwon has ever been, but shouldn't be a first for anyone else.

So does this mean that we have to play for the bench every year?

This made me chuckle. Add "The Battle for the Heated Bench" along to the Jug and the Axe and the Floyd of Rosedale.

Jerry Kill Press Conference, preview for Ohio State

"We come off a good win. And you go home, and you kick back and relax and get you a bowl of ice cream, and then you put on the TV and you watch Ohio State. So ... then you don't sleep the rest of the night, and you don't get a chance to enjoy the win, and now all you do is worry about what you're going to do."

Hilarious. I like that guy.

It clearly states "for both teams", meaning if the home team has them, then the visiting team also has them...
