Game Thread tOSU @ Minnesota, Nov 15th @ 12p ET, ABC/WatchESPN

Why does the 11:00am kick-off make this a closer game? It's 12:00 for the Ohio State players - just like half the other games. It's 11:00am for the Minnesota players - just like maybe 1/3 of their games.

Maybe that's my SEC goggles kicking in. We typically HATE early games because teams sleepwalk through the first quarter since most of our games are played at 3:30pm or later.

Sorry Zurp - I was trying to be funny in my post... In the movie "Fargo" there was a a quip "What the heck D-ya mean" which I thought was rather "Funny" at the time. So when ever I hear Minnesota , I think of that Movie "Fargo" It is a rather dark/comedy type of a movie, if you have never seen It

Didn't Fargo take place in North Dakota?

But my point is that people are using this "11:00am kickoff" for a reason the game will be closer than it should be. But, if anything, Ohio State should be MORE awake for this one than Minnesota is. Maybe it makes more sense if you compare a west coast team to an east coast team. If it's played at noon on the east coast, that's 9am for the west coast team. I can see how that would cause an issue for the west coast team - more than the east coast team. The Central Time Zone team comparison isn't as drastic, of course, but it still favors the east coast team.

TCF only holds about 52,000. That's not even close the State Penn's erector set!
"It will be cold! " As if playing at night up in East Lansing wasn't?
"It's an early start! Please! This is just ridiculous!
We are better on both sides of the ball. And even with their "home field" advantage, We should cover.
"It's a trap game and we'll come out flat!" Did you see the celebration after Minny won the Floyd of Rosedale Trophy? They expended a lot on that game. And they had 2 weeks to prepare for Iowa!
We won't put 50 on them and it will probably be close.............at halftime!

Kickoff time differences within the CONUS is pretty much a non-issue. The ones most affected are west-coast teams playing an EST-zone team with a noon kickoff (e.g., Cal at OSU last year, and it didn't seem to hurt Cal much), or an EST-zone team playing a west coast 8:00 pm kickoff (which is quite rare...the Oregon-Sparty game was a 5:00pm PST kickoff). If you want to talk about instances of kickoff times making an impact on the visiting team, try Michigan State or Northwestern at Hawaii in 2004, with a 6:00pm HST (11:00pm EST) kickoff, or Hawaii at Michigan State in 2005 with a noon EST (6:00am HST) kickoff.

I prefer 3:30 games just because I like watching them. I don't see how the noon start has any bearing on the outcome. As for the "trap game" theory, I can't stand it. Terms like that have only been made up over the last 15-20 years - no one EVER talked about a "trap game" when I was in school. To me, it's just an excuse. You have to prepare to play each week. Either you do it or you don't - "trap game" is not an acceptable excuse.

I really don't think Minnesota and MSU are all that different. MSU has been getting all of the hype for blowouts and Minny has been downgraded due to their history but if you really look closely you can see a lot of similarities. When Minny gets up they run the hell out of it which saps the clock and your defense. MSU tends to turn to play action which widens the scoring gap quicker. Both can be very efficient ways of demoralizing a defense and offense on the sidelines. We have to be extremely efficient on offense early in this game and score about the first 3 times we get the ball to disrupt their gameplan. LBs have to continue to play downhill and their passing game goes against our weakness, the Safeties.

I hope everyone stays healthy and just plays disciplined football. If we do what we are supposed to do early and get up on them, we could cruise. If not, it might just be a dogfight in some crappy weather.

Re:  Kill has a special appreciation for the fans shoveling snow in the stands at TCF Bank Stadium this week. He used to shovel snow at Northern Illinois so his team could practice.

And I'm sure that all the fans were there solely due to their loyalty and devotion to the team: getting paid $10/hour had nothing to do with it.:roll1:

No. MSU has gotten all the hype because they are big ten champs, won the rose bowl, and have won all their games easily this year except the two against top 10 teams. Minny has been downgraded because they lost to Illinois.

The biggest difference between MSU and Minnesota is that MSU is one of the best teams in the country and Minnesota is slightly above average.
