Interesting piece of trivia from over there:

Section2 is correct, it was 1940. Beat Michigan 7-6 and OSU 13-7, both at home. It's also the only time it has ever happened according to the media guide.

If we're examining history, when MN took Floyd home last weekend, it was also the first time since the 60's that they've owned all the toy pigs, etc. at one time. They're a better team than they have been for quite a while. Doesn't mean they're going to crush us, but I watched the replay today and their QB had a nice touch on quite a few long balls, they had receivers who were making end zone catches while airborne, and more than once they had ball carriers who disappeared into a mass of defenders only to materialize running out the other side. Not the best idea to go to sleep on these guys.

While I agree with the gist of your post, Minnesota hasn't won Paul Bunyans Axe in like a decade.

Good news for people who love bad news the Twin Cities weather is six weeks ahead of schedule. ie. the weather Is like it is the last few days of December. This isn't football weather but hockey weather. Blowing cold. Yuck.

"All" was the wrong term--they have Floyd & the Jug together this year and that's the first time since LSD was still legal.

victories over rivals Michigan and Iowa. It's the first time the Gophers have beaten both those teams in one season since 1967

I wouldn't count them out for the Ax, too, though. They should have three losses going into that game.

Watching the journey on the big network and although I've already said it i felt compelled to say it again... Jerry Kill is a huge asset to Minneapolis and there's a reason why the gophers are where they are today. Cool story
I didn't get a chance to watch that last night, I DVR'd it and will watch it tonight and looking forward to it. I have to say, after that ass clown Brewster it's really nice to have a head coach who is resepcted around the league by fans and coaches. He's an easy guy to root for.

Kill definitely deserves a lot of credit for making the Gophers respectable. Bear in mind that in their loss to Illinois they were winning and had the ball until giving up a fumble return for a TD (-2 TO margin). As for the other, despite the 30-7 score @TCU it was not like TCU came out and boat-raced them. In that one the Gophers turned it over five times (!), allowing TCU to score on drives such as 3 plays, 18 yards (TD), 3 plays, 27 yards (TD), and 5 plays, 3 yards (FG). TCU's six scoring drives covered 183 yards, or about 30.5 yards per drive.

That said. Handling pressure and ball security are areas where the Gophers can be made to implode, and that should play into OSU's hands.

When I looked at the schedule way earlier in the year, I saw this game as potential trouble simply having to go on the road after an emotional and physical game with Sparty the week before. I thought the weather could be bad, but not this bad, and I didn't think the Gophers would be as good as they are. So, the Bucks might have their hands full.

Still, if Ohio State can throw the ball, they will be in fine shape, because they will also be able to run and score a ton. Minnesota already is pretty much 1 dimensional, except that they pick their spots to throw the ball. That TE of theirs is the truth. If the weather makes both teams one dimensional, it will be a tight one. I don't like tight ones. Bad for my ticker.

Here's to this game starting at noon. I've had my fill of waiting all day to see my team.
