Agreed. The response: "So, yeah, a coach's job falls on the line, including mine if I continue to allow a program to emerge and operate that way." tells me it was a guided question which then allowed previously-stated speculation which then allows reader to assume JT's job is in serious trouble (or at least beyond PC public statements by AD) which then leads to wide-spread concern in Buckeye Nation which then leads to more newspaper sales/website hits....BuckeyeBill73 said:However, as always, I'd like to see what the question was that triggered that response.
Nope, just making a simple observation: is my literal statement untrue?LloydSev said:It appears as if Kevin here believes that since these crimes are committed on campus property, they are less severe than if they happened off campus..
Any comments on that?
You know I've wondered since the beginning if Skeete was just a middle man who got busted in the wrong place.KevinBuck said:Strohs: the initial estimate of a half-pound was extremely high, and eventually the tally was determined to be 70-200 grams. That's not much at all, with a street value of $100-300.
so you agree that your malarkey about Skeete being a supposedly good kid and this warning might straighten him out doesn't really have anything to do with the question I asked?BN27: I have only suggested that campus cops make such an gesture for scholarship-athletes, since the university has a more mutual relationship with them and should be making more of an effort to keep them clean. Of course, no college students should ever be arrested for weed (do you realize this also means no financial aid ever again?), but I understand the pencil-pushers have their quotas...
To take it further, though, are the dorms even "the streets" (quotations implying the slangy sense you used)? Are dorm-bound college kids really living on the streets? Do you doubt that college kids in dorms are somewhat insulated from the real world that lies across High Street? I can't think of a much safer environment to experiment in, to be honest.
With the amount involved, Skeete was definitely some sort of middle man unless he's got a major growing operation going on as well: that's really why this raises my hackles so much, since they only got the little fish. As always happens, the dealer finds a new mover, and the weed is still available.osugrad21 said:You know I've wondered since the beginning if Skeete was just a middle man who got busted in the wrong place.
Was he hooking up the bulk or busting it up into the 8ths, Qtrs, etc....?
I knew plenty of guys in college who made a few bucks taxing a QP...
I should have explained better...KevinBuck said:With the amount involved, Skeete was definitely some sort of middle man unless he's got a major growing operation going on as well:
That's completely backwards. It's not society's obligation to provide aid to criminals (could you misread me more?), but it's not their obligation to revoke all rights to such aid just for minor drug crimes either. And it's not about helping one student, it's about helping the 600,000 people who were arrested on marijuana charges last year and have the double-whammy of a criminal record and no chance at financial aid. It's a fucked-up bureaucracy that hurts the petty rule-breakers and lets the blackmarket dealers keep getting rich, and anyone who thinks the War on Drugs is working is naive.LightningRod said:I don't know where to begin. It is society's obligation to provide financial aid to the student irregardless of behavior? The student knows the score - get caught with drugs, and you lose your financial aid. So, we as a society should repeal all drug laws in order to permit a student who has his/her priorities out of whack to toke at will? I guess I am naive.
Ummm. I have news for you: under the law, your friend was dealing.osugrad21 said:I should have explained better...
For instance, I had a roommate who had friends from "back home" come to see him in CBus. The guy would front the cash for larger amounts (QP, HP, LB) then have it for a short time until the friend came to get it. He would "tax" the quantity to make a few bucks...
Never dealt...but was a hookup between parties.
Gee thanks for the clarification...hoyalawbuck said:Ummm. I have news for you: under the law, your friend was dealing.
KevinBuck said:Lloyd: No, they wouldn't: there would be no crime, so there would be no issue.

...but, I have a feeling I'm about to get warned for going way off topic, so I'm done with this now. See you on the Open Discussion board...
