Seemed like Wisconsin was playing a lot of base defense, and I bet Herman was defaulting to certain calls based on spread principles to try and counter it. Two things should have dissuaded him from that:
1.) Miller had a bad game, he was indecisive even as a runner. He's of course a very important player and you have to give him ample chances (I think well into the 3rd quarter was warranted) to get his head on straight and play like he's capable. I think they undercorrected on him though, gave him too many chances to get on track rather than putting the game on another person's shoulders.
2.) Hyde was producing in his limited touches despite Wisconsin being in their base defense a lot.
Possible lesson? Even as a spread team it is important - nay, essential to have the ability and the will to line up and pound the ball against another team's defense when the situation calls for it.
