Game Thread tOSU at Wisconsin, Sat, Oct 16, 7:00 ET; ESPN

We all knew it was going to be tough to beat them. The opening kick-off really hurt us. The momentum changed real quick on tht one. Coming back
like we did gave us some hope but it was not to be. My take is this. Now
that wisky took us down, will they stay up for the rest of the season or
will they live off of the victory over us and ride the rest of the way. Saturday they beat the # 1 team. It took a great effort to do that. Iowa is still out there for them and that will be thier biggest test. We were knocked down a peg or two and now its time to rise up again and start it all over again. I just wonder if this season of Big1T1en football can be called one of the closest races in conference play that we have ever seen. Seems everybody is in the mix now. Should prove to an interesting finish.

When there's parity in the Big10, it means they all suck.
When there's parity in the SEC, it means they are all so freaking awesome that a loss should actually move you up in the polls.

(In fact I think that actually happened once in 07 or 08)

I wouldn't say much better but yeah they outplayed us... it happens from time to time especially when playing at home.
I would. They whipped our boys for a half, and then our guys were slightly better in the second half (but still had a lot of moments like the first half)

Luckily the computers don't necessarily feel that way since we didn't fall out of the top 10 even though it's early in the season.

The humans don't feel bad about us either. We're getting a lot of benefit of the doubt only dropping to 11 after a 2 score thumping to a team that started the day outside of the top ten.

There's still a lot of respect for this program out there.

I wonder what the chances of an undefeated B10 champ are once Nebraska joins. This may be a blessing in disguise, as (I think) the chances of an undefeated B10 champion after this season are slim to none. It may help temper expectations like what has happened in the SEC, with it being a rare feat that a team goes undefeated.

Not only that, if MSU fails to win out, we're going to have multiple teams with claims to the championship, showing that the B10 championship game couldn't come at a better time. Oh, and we get to beat up on Wiscy every year from now on ;-)

Agreed. When you know the game is over halfway through the first quarter, they were much better. Hats off to them for using a great gameplan and executing it to near perfection in the first half.

Don't know if you're off base here, because it depends on who you use as the selector for a MNC.
Michigan's MNC's:
Year . Record . Bowl Win . Selector(s)
1901 . 11-0-0 ... Rose ... Helms, Holgate, & NCF
1902 . 11-0-0 .............. Helms, Billingsley, Holgate, Parke H. Davis, & NCF
1903 . 11-0-1 .............. Billingsley & NCF
1904 . 10-0-0 .............. Billingsley & NCF
1918 .. 5-0-0 .............. Billingsley & NCF
1923 .. 8-0-0 .............. Billingsley & NCF
1932 .. 8-0-0 .............. Dickinson & Parke H. Davis
1933 .. 7-0-1 .............. Billingsley, Boand, Dickinson, Helms, Holgate, CFRA, NCF, Parke H. Davis, & Poling
1947 . 11-0-0 ... Rose ... Berryman, Billingsley, Boand, DeVold, Dunkel, CFRA, Helms, Houlgate, Litkenhous, NCF, Poling & Sagarin
1948 .. 9-0-0 .............. Associated Press
1997 . 12-0-0 ............. Associated Press (and a host of lesser ones)

Michigan fans can claim up to eleven. Non-Michigan fans usually don't give all of these to them. In many years there were other schools claiming the title also. For example, in 1918, the Pittsburgh Panthers had a legitimate claim on the title. The two years you were talking of are probably the AP issued MNC's in '48 and '97. In 1997 about a half dozen or so organizations selected Michigan as the MNC. But also in 1997, more than two dozen organizations selected Nebraska as the MNC.
OK Thanks. I stand corrected. I was thinking of only the "Major Polls" championships. I just was thinking of all the sCUM merchandise I've seen listing only the 48' and 97' championships. :oh:

First quarter belongs to Wiscy, Second and third -- all Buckeye -- fourth? clearly Wisconsin -- long drive that took more than 7 minutes off the clock and then a final interception to seal the deal. Frankly it was like watching the Biatchmafucka game again, get down early, come back to where it's a game and then get pounded, only this time the Bucks were on the road and the other guys had on red jerseys.
