Game Thread tOSU at USC, Sat. Oct. 31st, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

Not having Timmons against this offense…

Sadly, that could be the difference
The offense that scored once vs Wisconsin and their two starting WRs are freshman?

I expect them to get more than 7 but the skill at USC is no where near what it was the last few years with Lemon etc.

Would be nice to have Timmons but this is not a USC offense that is overly dynamic

I’ll wait for you to point out where I said he hasn’t put in the effort and explain your statement about this being a veiled shot at him. We’ll go from there.
Um, your own words in the sentence right before you intimating he is not putting forth his best effort? If you put those 2 sentences together it is pretty obvious this is a shot at him. There has been nothing to show TSC has not put in the effort (which he can control). The coaches obviously see something in the outcome (of which he does not have total control). You talked about putting in the best effort, not having the best outcome. That is a shot at him.

The kid won the job because the 5 star can’t cut the mustard right now. This is the harsh truth about the situation. If the kid wants to see the field, show up and show out or transfer. Those are your options here where the best effort is expected if you want to start.

Nowhere in my post does it mention him not putting in the effort. You putting words in bold doesn’t justify your false statement. I also have no need to “take a shot” at a kid. Stating that the kid didn’t win the starting job isn’t claiming that he hasn’t put in the effort. You’re twisting words to fit a narrative.

You think I care which name is on the back of the jersey of the kid who wins the starting QB job here? If TSC won the job and everyone was taking jabs at his ability to lead over Fahey, I’d still be saying the same thing. Literally makes no difference to me.

The fact is, he hasn’t won the job and isn’t starting. People are salty about it, but that’s the reality. I’ve been watching QBs here long before either of these kids had a name at all. Over the next few years, the jerseys will have different names and I’ll still say the same thing. There’s no need for me to make it a personal thing.

I was only defending the QB who won the starting job for the Buckeyes because some people seem to have an issue with it being him and not the other guy. That’s it. No agenda, no vendetta. Cut and dry. Simple.

Edit: Ok, I did mention “best effort” is needed if you want to start here. So, I’ll eat my foot on this, but I wasn’t trying to say TSC isn’t putting in the effort to compete with this statement, just that he isn’t putting in the better effort to win the starting job. I think if TSC wasn’t putting in the effort, Day wouldn’t mention this even being a competition at all. You know what, I’ve said too much at this point. Take a victory lap and I’ll pour a drink.

Week after week dumb people say shit like this. What they did against Wisconsin has almost nothing to do with how they will play tonight. If "logic" like this was worth a damn, we would have never lost to Iowa or Purdue with Urban.

Iowa has already scored 10 against Wisconsin.

We beat Iowa

Transitive property says we must then beat USC by eleventy thousand.

If we disagree at all, it is only in how much we can draw from that Wisconsin game. In saying that you “expect them to get more than 7”, you make it clear that you are reasonable enough to acknowledge that game as an aberration. The question then is, was it a small aberration that is the first evidence of the wheels coming off of the Trojan season, or was it one of those aberrations that should be discarded entirely as having no predictive power for the future.

I would love to believe that this is the start of a trend. The problem is, I have no reason to believe that. To me, the most telling thing here is the sheer size of the aberration. For the Trojans, especially Miller, Raymond, Noa, and Maiava, this was an Iowa2017/Purdue2018 level no-show. I’m sure that those games made Ohio State’s next opponents feel better about their chances, but they didn’t mean a thing.

No one would be happier than me to see the Buckeyes hold USC to 17 or less tonight. I just don’t see a reason to expect it if Timmons can’t go.

Edit: I’ve been away longer than I realized and had forgotten the level of thick skin that is expected here on BP. I bent over backwards to be polite here, when this entire wall of text could be boiled down to what BN27 said directly or what Jax said sarcastically.
