I’m sorry, but in college games you just trash your opponent. I’m not sure Day will ever learn. You can be conservative and aggressive at the same time.

We play nobody until Indiana. USC is overblown. Iowa? I’m not sure what to think about Oregon. It’s going to end up like almost all the seasons: can you beat Michigan? I was confident of that until the 4 th quarter last night.
it seems to me that the best way to beat the buckeyes, is to have a qb that run the ball.
I recall the knock on Woody was that he could be beat by a team with a good passing attack. The reasoning went that the defense never practiced against an offense that could pass.
Perhaps the same case in reverse with Day; the defense never practices against an offense with a running QB.
Looking back on significant losses. Two games to swivel pass JJ, a loss to Mr. Ugly at Miami, a loss to Fernando, a loss to the Ducks with Dylan, and now a loss to Manning. All capable runners.

It feels like Day is still stuck trying to prove how tough his teams are and that he can win dog fights. There's a lot of self sabotage in not putting games like this away.

The 2005 Texas game was similar in leaving points off the board and having to settle for FGs that ended up costing the game. Though of course we didn't blow a 3 score 4th quarter lead in that one.

he Ohio State Buckeyes lost to the Texas Longhorns on Saturday in a game that marked the first time in program history the Buckeyes lost when leading by at least 17 points at halftime. That stat alone tells the story of the kind of night it was for Ohio State down in Austin.
Ohio State led 20-3 at halftime before Texas rattled off 21 straight points in the fourth quarter to take the lead and the victory, 24-23. The Buckeyes put up 372 total yards of offense, more than the 336 Texas managed, but the problem is Ohio State did the majority of that damage in the first half.
Ohio State’s offense stalled in the second half against Texas
The Buckeyes picked up 19 first downs against Texas, and again, most of that production came before the break. Ohio State managed just three points in the final 30 minutes. That inability to sustain drives on offense kept the defense on the field for much of the second half in a game where Texas controlled time of possession.A tired defense was the result. Ohio State coach Ryan Day admitted as much after the game.
“I think that was the goal was to get guys in and out and rotate,” Day said. “And I thought we were doing a good job for the majority of the game. I think we were on the field probably too much in the second half, and certainly in the fourth quarter.”
When you’re not getting first downs on offense, you put those guys right back out there. But I think a lot of guys played, we knew that was gonna be the case. But ultimately, we didn’t get it done.”
Ohio State’s defensive line ran out of gas against Arch Manning
Along the defensive line especially, Ohio State looked gassed. The Buckeyes sacked Texas quarterback Arch Manning twice on Saturday, but they could not create any legitimate pressure in the fourth quarter. Manning had all day to throw and made Ohio State’s defense pay.Manning finished 23-of-37 for 195 passing yards and one touchdown with one interception against the Buckeyes. He added 24 yards rushing on eight attempts. Ohio State held star wide receiver Cam Coleman to just three catches for 35 yards, and Ryan Wingo managed only four catches for 22 yards.
Still, none of that mattered when Ohio State found itself outscored 21-0 in the fourth quarter with a tired defense on the field. That is a recipe for disaster every time out, and the Buckeyes paid for it on Saturday.
Ohio State plays Kent State at home next week, which will give the Buckeyes a chance to get right. Still, Saturday night was a punch Ohio State might feel for a while.

The more I think about the blown opportunity last night, Texas had a lot also that went in our favor. Flip the script for a second. The early fumble doesn’t happen. The wide open receiver letting the ball bounce off his chest right into ours. Pretty sure they had a for sure TD dropped in the endzone also. Both teams made mistakes. If either receiver catches those passes, Texas would’ve had the lead anyway. We tend to always look at how we lost a game rather than recognizing that the reason we had that big lead was due to early miscues by Texas. That game could’ve literally went either way. There's a reason it was a one point difference. Having the big lead, in my opinion, is what cost us the game. We had no sense of urgency. When the game stays close for all 4 quarters, we seem to respond immediately when our opponent takes the lead. Last night we went into cruise control too early. Look at how many times we have done the same to other teams. Hell, we’ve broken Penn States hearts in the same fashion more than once with a late comeback. Purdue, Wisconsin, etc… Big momentum shifts happen. Especially in football. They need to regroup, refocus, and get over it quickly. Hopefully by the time we face the Hoosiers we are 5-1 and playing like a well oiled machine.

The luck factor leveled out with those 2 2nd half fumbles that our players who were right there somehow did not recover.
Difference was Texas took full advantage of their luck and we did not

It's hard to pull out of cruise control once you flip the switch into it. The major issue was they came straight out of the half already in cruise control when they needed another TD to truly put the game away and once Texas finally got some life after that 1st 4th down it was too late to be able to turn the play from the first half back on.
The lack of adjustments were staggering. The only real adjustment made was the bad one where the defense went into soft 3 man DL shell most of the 2nd half. A complete failure all around.
Yes the players need to execute but the coaches set the tone here with the "strategy" out of the locker room

I think it's mostly mental. This choke job was all a mental lapse all around. You come out of the locker room without a single adjustment just expecting to cruise to victory? That's a mental mistake set in motion by the coaches which all starts with Day.
