Regarding the Oline, I noticed that everyone of them got beat in pass rush, . thats bad against a ball state. I still dont understand how Daniels is a all conference
I aslo noticed that we dont have a DE that performed at an elite level.
If they dont pick it up we could have a letdown against Texas.

KJ had 8 pressures. Need them to finish, but I thought the whole DL was great.

I think they’re going to push the ball downfield immediately to test their secondary. They’ll see how the OL holds up and go from there.

Lightning Round: Ryan Day Says “You Come to Ohio State to Win Games Like This,” Jay Timmons “Doesn’t Carry Himself Like a Freshman”​

Here's a bullet-point recap of Day's press conference:
  • Day said Ohio State has “listened to our sports science folks” about how to prepare for the heat in Austin this weekend. Day said the Buckeyes aren’t overdoing it regarding their preparation for the high temperatures and are keeping the game the main focus.
  • On Ohio State vs. Texas: “You come to Ohio State to win games like this. We’re all evaluated by games like this. … This is what it’s all about.”
  • On Ohio State’s tight ends: “Overall, they’re gonna be a key part of what we do. … So far, solid. We’ll see that group obviously grow as the season goes on.”
  • When asked about Julian Sayin’s preparation for the Texas game, Day said Ohio State keeps the routine the routine to make sure the coaches and players are ready for big games. On Sayin specifically, Day said, “His routine has been excellent.”
  • Day said defensive end Qua Russaw has had a “full week” of practice leading up to the Texas game.
  • Day said Texas has great wide receivers, but Ohio State’s defensive backs should be well-prepared for the challenge because they defend some of the best pass catchers in America every practice: “Great challenge for them. … They have to trust their training. … Their guys are excellent, some of the best in the country.”
  • On Jay Timmons: “He really pops off the screen. … You just see the competitiveness. He doesn’t carry himself like a freshman to me.”
  • Day said Ohio State is still evaluating whether Legend Bey will continue returning kickoffs this week, but he did return kicks in practice today.

Texas did decide to try to bring back a former player who got a fifth year of eligibility, or so they thought. The Longhorns brought back Cole Hutson, who was invited to the Cowboys' minicamp. However, he didn't sign a contract. Yet, he is still not eligible to play for the Longhorns.

Texas OL not eligible to play against the Ohio State Buckeyes​

During his weekly press conference, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian informed the media that Hutson is still not eligible to play. It is not because of the new SEC rules, but for another reason. Sark did say that he's hoping to have Hutson available at some point this year.

However, Hutson would be a key member of Texas' offensive line if he were able to play. There is a good chance that he would start for them. For him not to be able to play this game is big for the Buckeyes. That should help their defensive line, which struggled to get sacks in Week 1.

The Longhorns have lost to Ohio State in each of the last two seasons. They need as much talent as they can get if they want to reverse that trend. They beat Texas State 59-7 in a game that was never close. Meanwhile, Ohio State smashed Ball State 56-3.

While Hutson is ineligible, the Longhorns will have Trevor Goosby available. He hurt himself in preseason practice but was still able to go in Week 1. There was concern that he could miss the first couple of weeks of the season, but he is good enough to play.

Agree. It kind of annoyed me last year when x and o scheme guys and even the coaches to some extent would talk about deep plays that should have worked on paper. There's a reason those plays work like 25% of the time. Everything has to go right

On facing Texas on the road​

  • Day said there will be “an electric environment” in Austin on Saturday.
  • Day said Ohio State’s coaches and players have been waiting for this game for a long time.
  • “I think we’re all fired up to get down there.”
  • Day said Ohio State’s players just need to do what they’ve done in practice this week and win the game in the fourth quarter. He said that’s not simple, but it’s necessary to win on the road against a premier opponent.
  • Day said Ohio State benefited from playing Ball State before Texas because the Buckeyes were able to “flush out” some early-season mistakes against the Cardinals. Day said his team is fresh coming out of the Week 1 win.

On playing depth against Ball State​

  • Day called Ohio State’s win over Ball State “a good start.”
  • Day said “we need everybody” against Texas, from the starters to the scout team.
  • Day said the Buckeyes “will have to play depth in this game, no question.”
  • On his goals entering the Texas game
  • “The No. 1 thing here in this game is we got to win the game. Period.”
  • “There’s so much involved with this game… but at the end of the day we got to get on that plane with a win.”

On Ohio State’s freshmen class​

  • “There are some young freshmen here that I’m really high on. I love the look in their eye. I like the approach that they have. The future is bright with this class. Fired up to see where this goes by the end of the year. Where we are now with them is not where we’ll be midway through the season or at the end of the season, but bright futures there.”

On using the Texas game as a measuring stick​

  • “Where are we? Where is this group right now? We want to prove where we are right now. It’s an important game for a lot of reasons. That’s the first thing we got to make sure everybody recognizes in the entire program. This is an important game for so many reasons. We have our goals, and one of the goals is to win the national championship. We know that. There’s no question that this is an important game, first off to get there, because this is not the same as Ball State when the CFP looks at it, so that’s important, and then the other part of it is the seeding in the end.
  • “We all know that this is a nonconference game that is gonna have a major impact (on the postseason).”
  • “We’ve been hard towards it, and obviously we are gonna get great feedback coming out of the game.

On Julian Sayin and Arch Manning​

  • “They worked really hard to get to where they are right now.”
  • Day said Ohio State vs. Texas will be much different because of the experience Sayin and Manning have now compared to last year.
  • “Both now have a lot more experience going into it.”
  • Day said he learned that Sayin has composure after Ohio State beat Texas in the season opener last year. “He’s in a different place now than he was last year.”
  • Day said Arthur Smith is “excited about where we are” with the offense, largely due to Sayin’s leadership.
  • “This is the first start in becoming road warriors this year.”

On how film helps his team prepare​

  • When asked which position group watches the most film, Day said every Ohio State player is responsible for watching film. The more film a player watches, the better prepared they’ll be for the game.
  • Day later said the quarterbacks probably watch the most film as a group, but some players from other positions watch a lot of film, too.
  • Day said watching film helps players anticipate instead of react.

On the extreme heat in Austin this weekend​

  • Day said Ohio State’s nutrition and sports science staffs have been helping the Buckeyes prepare for the intense heat expected in Austin this week.
  • “We’ve spent time preparing for it the best you can without making it a bigger deal than it is. We just got to go play football.”
  • Day said Ohio State’s players need to be hydrated and prepared for the game.
  • “At the end of the day, it’s gonna come down to football. It’s the same for both sides. Yeah, we’re gonna have to play some depth early, but other than that, it’s gonna be like any other game.”

On Devin McCuin​

  • Day said McCuin “has really had a nice preseason and done a really good job.”
  • Day said McCuin has earned his teammates' confidence because of how he performs in practice.
  • “We’re gonna need him.”
  • Day said McCuin has put himself in a position to be “a key contributor” for the Buckeyes. Given the attention Texas will direct toward Jeremiah Smith, Day said Ohio State will need a big performance from McCuin.
