Running the ball is how they’d win the game IMO if they can do it. I think our secondary is too good to just drop back against over and over even if they have two good WRs.

But as said above, our RT has to be better. If Julian is under pressure like the end of 2025 it’ll be tough to win this game. We don’t have to dominate (please dominate though) but the OL just has to play good.

Also, as said above. We have to play smarter than this last weekend. Too many penalties and Bey can’t make those mistakes taking the ball out.

Presser Bullets: Ryan Day Will “Continue To Evaluate” Changing Offensive Line, Focused on Texas Rather Than Michigan Ending​

  • Said the offensive line will "continue to evaluate" whether changes will be made to the starting group.
  • On scheduling tough opponents at the start of the year: "It sort of gave you some real feedback on where you are, and I think it's great for college football. This is going to be an unbelievable atmosphere down there ... everybody in the country will be watching." Day said games like this are “why you come to Ohio State.”
  • Said Jeremiah Smith's struggles against Texas are a testament to who he is as a player, and it makes everybody else step up and be better.
  • He'll play the younger guys if he feels they give Ohio State the best chance to win.
  • On former Buckeye defensive tackle Hero Kanu: "He's somebody who has a lot of talent as well, and a good football player for sure. But he's somebody that's well-respected in the locker room, and certainly as a player." Day described Kanu as a “tremendous person” who did a lot of work in the community while he was at OSU.
  • On Legend Bey: "I think he has the right attitude, coming in here every day, looking to get better."
  • Said Ian Moore's debut at left tackle was "solid," but he knows there are bigger challenges ahead.
  • Said Julian Sayin and Arch Manning are two "completely different players" from a year ago.
  • On Arch Manning: "He can beat you with his legs. He can beat you downfield. He can make throws when you need to. Give him a lot of credit for putting the work in."
  • Said there's a "reference point" playing a team three years in a row outside of the conference like Texas, but with the new era of college football, it's not like there's a true resemblance each year for the opposing program.
  • Day thought the run game took a step forward in the second half against Ball State.
  • There needs to be a balance between being smart and aggressive with Sayin, but there's more room to be aggressive compared to a year ago, Day said.
  • On Sayin: "I think a big part of quarterbacks is their ability to pick themselves up off the mat and get up and do it again. You think about all the different quarterbacks that make it in the NFL or become really successful in college. lot of them have journeyed along the way where they've been knocked down. So being able to hit adversity is a key component to (being) successful."
  • A big-picture thing Day took away from Week 1 is that the Buckeyes are going to have to play depth against Texas.
  • Said it was important to get Chris Henry Jr. a touchdown to "flush out the mishaps" he had with some early drops.
  • Said he "hasn't been focused on that at all" regarding the ending of the Michigan/Western Michigan game, as all of his focus has been on Texas.
  • On Texas' wideouts vs. Ohio State's secondary: "They're gonna win some, we're gonna win some, and you know we just gotta keep fighting throughout the game."
  • He's not worried about the hot weather.
  • Said they're comfortable putting Connor Hawkins on to kick from anywhere.
  • For Devin McCuin, he said, "we brought him here to win games like this." Day said Devin McCuin reminded him of Chris Olave when he watched McCuin on film coming out of UTSA. Day said that what he didn’t know about McCuin was his makeup and how tough he is. He said McCuin had a great summer in the weight room, and it’s taken off from there.
  • Said the offensive line has put "a lot of work into" downfield blocking, especially for the long runs.
  • Day said Saturday’s game will “mean a little something extra” for Ohio State’s players who grew up in Texas.

How do you watch the two play and come away with Arch being the better QB?

I don’t follow at all, and when I hear that argument I Question the persons intelligence or their ability to read. All you have to do is look at the stats. One almost set the yearly completion percentage mark and the other still throws into double coverage multiple times a game. What are we even doing here?

Then there’s this odd thing that this year Texas spent money on their roster. I assure you they did last year and btw they spent more than we did in 2024 too.

Both rosters are great, and it’ll come down to the simple things as it always does.

1. Turnovers
2. LOS

I’m confident Julian will take care of the ball. Can anyone say the same for Arch? Bottom line is that if our OL isn’t just an absolute mess we’ll win the game.

If it’s circa 2025 vs Indiana again then yeah it’ll be a dog fight. But if they can just hold their own I don’t see Texas being within 2 touchdowns in the 4th.

They pretty much just point to the Indiana & Miami games......

you can do the same with Arch though

He was horrible in the Texas A&M game that eliminated them from playoff contention and was wildly mediocre at best in the Georgia and Ohio State games (both Ls where Texas only scored 17 points combined) He also threw 2 4th quarter INTs that helped seal Texas' loss to a bad Florida team.

Sayin's performances behind shoddy OL play in the Indiana/Miami games were still better than Arch's efforts against Texas A&M and Georgia.

A difference that often gets left out as well is that 2025 was Sayin's 1st season of getting real playing time. Arch played a decent amount in 2024 and theoretically with 2025 being his 3rd year in college compared to 2 years for Sayin, should be much further along in "development"

Ryan Day, Steve Sarkisian Explain Why Matchups Like Ohio State-Texas Define Elite Programs: “Everybody in the Country Will Be Watching”​

Ohio State and Texas Round 3 is set for Saturday.

All eyes were on both squads in the first two matchups — last year in Columbus, where the Buckeyes won 14-7, and the season before when Ohio State won 28-14 in the Cotton Bowl.

This time around, the heavyweight bout between a pair of top-five teams in the country will take place in the Lone Star State, and it will most certainly bring the fireworks once again.

"These are two great teams that are going to battle and going to compete against one another," Steve Sarkisian told reporters on Monday. "It's awesome for the university. It's awesome for the city of Austin. It's awesome for college football. I mean, this will be the most-watched regular-season game, arguably, of all time in the regular season. That's great for everybody else."



Ryan Day was asked why the Buckeyes scheduled a game like Texas, and he replied that it gives a good assessment of what his team is capable of early in the year.

"It certainly gives you some early feedback on where you are, and I think it's great for college football. This is going to be an unbelievable atmosphere down there against a great opponent. Everybody in the country will be watching, so this is why you come to Ohio State. This is why you go to Texas to play in games like this," Day said Tuesday. Good thing is it'll give us a great data point on where we are and early feedback on things. But more importantly, the experience of playing in a game like this early in the season is, again, one of the reasons why you recruit great players to come here."
