Purdue's defensive woes in 2022 have it being overlooked as we head into the summer months, especially considering the progress the rest of the division made through the transfer portal. On the other side of the ball, potential Boilermakers starting quarterback Hudson Card is familiar with high-pressure situations after playing at Texas and could have an outing that leads to an upset over the Buckeyes. As mentioned, it all starts on the defensive side of the ball.

Ohio State still needs to determine QB1, but the consensus is that Kyle McCord will fill the role. If so, he'll lead a star-studded offense that features two of the best wide receivers in the country in Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka. He'll also have a great stable of running backs to alleviate pressure off his shoulders. The Buckeyes have potential to be great on the defensive side of the ball as well with linebacker Tommy Eichenberg returning for another season. EDGE J.T. Tuimoloau is back as well and looks to build off a solid sophomore campaign.

Purdue was the only opponent to make the top four of at least one staffer’s confidence ranking and also land in the bottom four of at least one staffer’s confidence ranking, as Johnny ranked Purdue as his fourth-most confident win while Ramzy Nasrallah (ninth) and Jacob Rhee (10th) both slotted the Boilermakers as one of their four least confident victories.

On paper, Purdue should rank as one of the easier opponents for Ohio State this season, with a roster that ranks on the lower end of the Big Ten in terms of overall talent and a first-year head coach in Ryan Walters. But Buckeye fans need no reminder of what happened last time Ohio State went to West Lafayette, and given that Ohio State has lost three of its last four trips there, there’s reason to have at least a little trepidation about playing the “Spoilermakers” on the road.

Buckeyes open as three-score favorite at Purdue​

Now for the second straight week, the Buckeyes are yet again a three-score favorite, this time on the road at a venue that has been a house of horrors for the Ohio State program. Ohio State opened this week as a 20.5-point favorite for its road matchup Saturday against Purdue, which is set for a Noon kickoff on Peacock.

The total is set at a low 51.5-point number. It’s the lowest total set on a Buckeyes game since last October when they faced Iowa at home. The total in that game was 50, and the Buckeyes scored 54 points themselves.

This is the first time Ohio State will play at Purdue since 2018, when it was a 14-point road favorite and was destroyed by the Boilermakers in a 49-20 upset loss.

Very few of the players from that 2018 Buckeyes team remain with the program. It was five years ago, after all. But there are still a few who remember that night in West Lafayette. Buckeyes starting safety Josh Proctor is among them, and he’s excited to get back to Northwest Indiana and take on the Purdue team that derailed the Buckeyes national title hopes in 2018.

“It means a lot,” Proctor said. “It means a lot. I haven’t ben back since, so I’m definitely looking forward to that.”

West Lafayette is a shithole by all accounts. I understand there are people that call it home but…I guess fuck them too. I don’t understand why that region of Indiana exists except for Bloomington because it’s nice and it’s my undergrad but as a former social worker who covered counties around WL stay the fuck away from it - don’t bring that shit back into your house, whatever the fuck it is.
