SKULL SESSION: OHIO STATE IS SOON-TO-BE QBU, JUSTIN FIELDS IS ON A MISSION, AND SEAN CLIFFORD HAS SOME CONFIDENCE

CLIFFORD FEELING It.

Gather 'round whipper snappers, so there's this kid quarterback from Upper Arlington, Ted McNulty. And Woody's put the full court press on 'im to make him a Buckeye. But Ted's got other ideas, and he goes public and says he goin' somewhere where he can throw the ball, and he's not gonna be a first string, ball control, hand it off to the running backs, run it down their throats, throw only in times of crisis type of QB and off he goes to Indiana,

Next year, 1972, and the Hoosiers and their hot shot, slinging' Sammy Baugh type QB come to Columbus. From the first play the Hoosiers have the ball you can see Ol' Woody 's been talking' to his defense, putting' clippings on the bulletin board, fine tuning' their anger button, and plotting on working up a number six on McNulty. Hell, they hit him ever time he touches the ball, which is every play they got the ball.

Next thing you know, they got the stretcher boys on the field and they take what's left of Ted McNulty off the field. 44 - 7 Buckeyes.

Maybe ol' Woody's ghost is working up a number 6 for Clifford.

I played hoop in the driveway with Ted McNulty.

He kicked my ass.

A WIN IS ALL THAT MATTERS
Surely, Ohio State fans would love to see the Buckeyes roll over the Nittany Lions tonight and look like a national championship team. As competitive as recent games against Penn State have been, though, tonight isn't about style points.

I think this game could end up being tighter than many expect, because I believe the Nittany Lions are better than the scoreboard showed last week and will be hungry to prove it this week. But if Ohio State can bring home a win from Happy Valley, tonight should be considered a success no matter how close the game might be. We can get back to nitpicking when the Buckeyes play Rutgers next week.

I share the sentiment that this game could very well be a tight one given how closely PSU always seems to play us, even with the key players they don't have this season (Parsons, Brown, Cain, etc.). I see PSU bringing the pressure and bringing some exotic blitz packages early that slow Fields down somewhat. I also see the run game taking a little bit to get going. Defensively we need to get pressure early on and we really need Cooper and Harrison to do a better job of getting to the QB. Obviously the LBs need to play MUCH better than they did, Clifford may not be quite as athletic as Martinez and McCaffrey, but he's no slouch running the ball.

All that said, I've got Ohio State 34 - PSU 21.

This game is all on our LBs IMO... Are they going to take good angles to the ball? Cover their TE? Spy the QB?

We've heard all year how well this group is playing so it's time for the LBs to show up big.
