Navy is not handling defensive penetration. And after that play, they are feeling penetrated.

The reason why he's playing so far back is because the interior line of Navy is cut blocking on the option. This is packing up the middle and not allowing your Mike backer to flow to the traffic like he should.
It's not optimal to do that, however, because it leaves you open to the fake up the middle to the FB (which they should have run on that fumble, but it was a bad read by the Navy QB).

Gotta give credit for Lee for scooping it up and running it back. He could have just fallen on it, or even worse, he could have wiffed the fumble recovery.
