Alright, so it seems that they ruled it was a forward pass based on the fact that it started at the 8 and ended at the 10.

That's not how physics works - Reynolds was moving forward when he pitched it sideways. By virtue of his momentum, even if he pitched it perfectly sideways or even slightly behind, the ball would move forward due to its retained forward momentum. Under football rules, does that count as a forward pass or a pitch?
