Did you guys really expect this team would not experience some difficult times this year?

Tumultuous off season
Young New HC
No proven QB
Young, Young, did I say young team
Key veteran players suspended for 5 games

You had to believe there would be some tough times to push through. It is one game and one they can certainly learn from. We still have a long season to go and the team really needs the fans to stay behind them.

I am sure Bucknuts is flipping right now...Stay Classy BP...

This. That is why I didn't flip out the entire game. Frustrating yes, unexpected no. Although it was worse than I thought..

Woof...that felt a lot like 2004. :ohwell: That said, anybody should have been able to see that kind of performance coming. Inexperience at QB, RB, WR, and some key spots = rebuilding season. We've just grown so used to the success that we forgot every program goes through this every few years...it's just been since 2004 for us. Even so, as low as it seems right now, we will never sink to the depths that scUM has since 2006.

Admittedly, I have serious concerns with Fick's long term viability here after that performance. Might be in a little over his head. But, this is an experienced staff and that was just a horrific game plan all around. Anyway...regroup and on to the next one.

What happened after 2004. OSU won a number of Big Ten Championships.

Don't blame Fickel about the poor offense. He is not calling the plays. I do not know if he is calling the QB switches or is Bollman?

Does anyone mind summarizing what happened tonight? I missed the game due to work related problems...

I looked at the stats and occasionally checked my ESPN Score Tracker App.. I saw the rushing stats, and with 37 carries for 165 yards I can't understand why we didn't win... Then I saw the QB play and was immediately reminded that you need a balanced attack... Yet, defensively, despite the first couple drives where we gave up the points it seemed as though we played well. We even forced two turnovers.

So can somebody explain to me what went wrong? Were we unable to get off the field defensively? Unable to move the ball, despite the big rushing numbers?

Our offense was really bad outside of Jordan Hall and Hyde. Defense did pretty well, all things considered. Coaching decisions were another story....

I didn't put the blame all on him. Read what I wrote. I said we have a very experienced staff...no reason for all that experience to lay an egg like that. Then again, we are pretty horrific at the QB position right now...much like we were until scUM week in 2004.

are we young and inexperienced? Yeah overall, but we're just young and inexperienced in the WRONG spots. Quarterback and the Head Coach.

Defense played well outside of like three plays. #6 got probably 120 of his yards out of three carries otherwise the defense I thought was good. They had good pressure, forced turnovers, pass protected well, tackled overall pretty well, and really kept us in the game.

On offense, we ran the ball great. We just didn't have anything capable for playaction to keep them honest. Bauserman had tons of time back there and he just kept throwing the ball away. Being safe is all well and good but when that's all you do that isn't good.

Braxton should've been in earlier in the game, but oh well.

In saying that I hope no one takes this personally but i've never seen this poor of a performance passing ever. EVER. Bauserman should probably not take another snap this year. 2nd week now where there was absolultely nothing contributed by our passing game. It's about time to trust in Braxton and atleast have his potential to make plays when things break down. If both are going to throw incompletions it'd be wise to have that person be braxton.

A couple of quotes from Fickell's presser:

"Still trying to figure out what this team does best..."

"You really find out what kind of character you have after a loss like this."

Otherwise, a lot of "we're not going to point fingers at any one particular area", "we're going to look at that...", "we'll have to figure that out going forward...".

I got the impression that he didn't quite have his head wrapped around what went wrong, other than their game plan didn't click (my words, not his). Probably a sign of a young coach.

He's speaking in cliches like a seasoned vet though.

I agree with everything said here.
