Skull Session: Ohio State Finally Gets Some Good Luck, Officials Are Having a Rough Year and College Football Sees Week 7 Carnage

164727_h.jpg

FINALLY, SOME GOOD LUCK. Remember when Urban Meyer collapsed in relief after Ohio State’s game-winning score against Michigan in 2016? I had a similar fall when I realized Indiana wide receiver Nick Marsh’s foot was out of bounds when he hauled in what could have been the Hoosiers’ game-winning score against the Buckeyes.

I make fun of CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein for his posts about grabbing nitroglycerin pills during the endings of dramatic college basketball games, but, like — I get it. I needed a couple, or a few, or several after Ohio State escaped Bloomington with a four-point win.

There’s an old proverb: “Luck never gives; it only lends.”

Throughout Ryan Day’s tenure, it’s felt like luck is given to Ohio State’s opponents and never even lends to the Buckeyes. So it was good to see the football gods finally favor Day and Co. inside Memorial Stadium.

It’s about damn time!

GOD'S FACE SHINES UPON THE WORLD FAMOUS OHIO STATE BUCKEYES!!!

Just sayin': Obviously "Devine Intervention".

I saw it so much in baseball I am convinced it’s a human reaction- refs call the game differently for the more talented team.

It’s like they are subconsciously, or consciously, trying to make it more “fair”.
I think you are right. On some plays, even I felt for the defenders who had to cover JJ. What else can they do other than holding on for dear life. I do think JJ could sell it more, though. Half the time, it seems like the PIs had no effect on him. Refs need some indications to make the call too.

Glad you don’t see him doing all the stupid gestures that most of them do.

FEUDS ARE STILL FUN. Even if Ohio State vs. Indiana is more of a feud than a rivalry, I can still poke fun at the Hoosiers.

Here’s a good example.

Curt Cignetti is 33-3 at Indiana.

Two of those losses are to Ryan Day.

Oh, and Indiana’s three lowest-scoring games under Cignetti?

13 points vs. Ohio State in the 2025 Big Ten Championship Game.

15 points vs. Ohio State in 2026.

15 points vs. Ohio State in 2024.

Does Cignetti have a Ryan Day problem?

The people are asking!
