Game Thread tOSU at Illinois, Nov 16, 12 ET, ESPN

Caution...

For those who may need them, there are a couple of links in my sig. The VIP sport one seemed a little iffy with some pop-ups, and I'm not a huge first row fan, although they do seem to be fairly consistent while streaming.

However http://www.time4tv.com/2011/09/espn_04.php is already playing college gameday. I watched the London Olympics on the site and it was solid the whole time.

I know @Mike80 had a couple of links against Purdue as well.

They are roughly on a par with San Diego State.

#115 in rushing defense
#88 in passing defense
#105 in red zone offense
#103 in scoring defense

I'm with Mili, I don't see any reason why this shouldn't be a real blowout. I think that the Illini will:
  • Be unable to run the ball, gaining less than 120 yards total rushing.
  • Have some early success in the air outside the redzone, picking up 160 yards passing.
  • Find it impossible to keep Ohio State out of their backfield. Things get ugly early for Schelhasse, as the Illini allow 12 tackles for loss.
  • Have at least two interceptions and one fumble.
  • Get only 25 minutes or less time of possession
  • Score no more than 10 points and, I think, fail to cross into the endzone.

Two things could depress the score: rain and wind higher than the 20mph gusts that are forecast. If these are not a problem, then I think the Buckeyes will score at will, getting 56-73 points depending on the halftime score and when Meyer decides to really dial it back. It could be a shutout, but I think the Illini might get a field goal or two on their home field (their kicker is ranked in the #80s) or a touchdown on a fluke.

Weather may be an issue for the passing game with projected high winds and thunderstorms. I have no doubt the Buckeyes can pound the ground all day and still dominate. If that is the case, 33 point spread may be a bit high under those conditions. would love to see the 63-6 but may not be realistic.

"Buckeyes looking for a statement win today... they'll probably get it."

I swear we could beat Illinois 150-0 and the talking heads would still yawn. They keep harping on this 'statement win' BS, yet every time we turn one in they flip the page to next week and spew the same crap: "Buckeyes looking for a statement win."

Newsflash: the last two conference opponents have been brutally RAPED. The Buckeyes shouldn't need another statement win just because you're all blind. Shove it. Yeah, yeah... I know... why am I even watching? I have no idea. Is it game time yet?
