tOSU 60, Iowa 58 (Final)

 Imagine watching the last 40 seconds thinking that OSU was losing by two, because that's what I did. I'm too far away to see the score (roommate told me the score), but I was seriously questioning my basketball knowledge. Haha

They won, that's all that matters. :p

You have to give props to Iowa. They battled their asses off the entire game, which we figured they would. Unbelievable 3 point shooting by Bahwinkle and the entire Iowa team for that matter once again. We held on down the stretch and our go-to-guy got it done. Great job taking over Evan! I would have liked to see BJ get a little more looks inside as he was easily dominating his man.

He didnt play great for the whole game but some serious love has to go to William Buford for bringing the Bucks back at the end of the first half, espeically when Evan went out of the game. If we go into that half down 5 or 7 points we probably dont win that game. Excellent job Buf!!

BTN has 1999 tOSU vs St. Johns on right now Redd and Penn vs Artest.

I remember watching it with my dad at a hotel off the Pennsylvania turnpike 2 nights before my birthday. Met halfway between Columbus and Maryland to watch it together.

Wait, that Final Four never happened. Nevermind.

I actually have no problems wirth the refs so far tonight. A couple of odd calls, but they've been fairly consistent and tOSU has actually got a couple of breaks on calls.

There were a couple weak, weak, weak handchecks in the first half (Hill, Buford) and they stopped calling ALL ball violations after the 2nd possession of the game, but other than those.....really wasn't too bad.

Hit the quota for 2 travels, a palming and two off-ball offensive fouls early to get them out of the way. :p

Good pass from Offutt on the Mullens bucket.

Word. Nice to see a lob pass set up the easy bucket. It's there a lot of times without the ball going in. Nice to see Offutt contributing.

PJ Hill continues to cement himself as my favorite player. The kid just gets after it every minute of every game.

great win and that lowa 3 point party looked like the early years of Matta and the gunners of :osu:. I love having Dallas, he's a beast. If Turner just gets a little bit more under control he would beyond, what he is now which, is great. He's such an all around player.

NCAA please

Win for the Buckeyes. Can't bring myself to say good win, we should have put in away in the final minutes. I know I wasn't the only one flashing back to the NW loss on the final shot. Good game from ET, just missing a double-double by one dime. Especially big because of the tweaked ankle. Dallas had his best game in a long while, contributing on offense, and snaring key rebounds, and some big blocks. There were at least three big rebounds in crunch time by different players (ET, Dallas, and WB, IIRC), where they weren't necessarily in the best position, but fought for it, which saved the game. Another good game from PJ, he's hustling his way to a special place in my heart. He has shown so much improvement over last year, and you can never accuse him of lack of effort. Buford had some big plays, but I get the feeling he's getting worn down. I hope he gets a second wind down the stretch. I think we could have taken over the game if we would have worked the inside game more. We had such a size advantage, but didn't capitalize. If they would have made inside passes above shoulder level, both Mullens and Dallas could have had easy opportunities. One thing I can't understand is why we can not guard the 3 ball. If there is one glaring weakness, that is it. Team after team stays in the game by jacking up 3s at will. After the NW game, I will crunch the numbers on how much better oponents shoot 3s against us compared to everyone else. It's unreal. You would think that once a weakness is exposed, there would be an effort to address it. Anyway, one win in the books, get ready for NW at home, make a statement in the conference tourney, and play our way into the NCAA. Good win to start a streak on.

The rebounding and Diebs' defense were KILLIN' me in the first half. I'm glad we could pull this one together though. Credit the staff for taking some extremely timely time-outs and the boys for driving to the basket and getting it down low to the big guys. Evan turner easily man of the match and Lauderdale's block was his play of the year thus far. I love how Evan's suddenly gotten into assist mode when he starts getting the double downs. If he keeps playing like that, I don't know HOW people are going to guard him 1-on-1!

Senior day vs the Wildcats. Looking forward to it.

Gordon Hayward, Devan Bawinkel, Durrell Summers, Matt Roth, Blake Hoffabarber, Craig Moore, Gordon Watt, and Andrew Puzyk. All guys who have hit at least 6 threes against us (Bawinkel only had 5 the first Iowa game, and McClinton was 4-4 in 8 minutes before he slapped PJ), and in every single one of those games, guys who single-handedly (save maybe Kalin Lucas's second half in the Michigan State game) carried their teams against the Buckeyes. And in none of those games, except maybe Indiana, because I didn't see that one, were these guys hitting ridiculous threes over four defenders from half court. Almost every one of the shots these guys are hitting are a direct result of us leaving guys open as the zone rotates and us not getting out on shooters.

I am a big proponent of the zone, for the most part. I think that if we could play man-to-man more effectively than we play zone, then we would be doing it, and I also think that our zone defense is for the most part pretty good, especially when we had Lighty. Yeah, the zone will give some open looks, but so will any defense, and its all about minimizing those open looks and putting pressure on opposing offenses, which I feel our zone does pretty well. But all that said, at some point, when guys are single-handedly keeping their teams in the games by constantly hitting open threes, dont you have to say enough is enough and change it up? Play straight man to man, play man to man but switch everything (like we saw some today), hell play a box-and-one if you dont want to get out of the zone. But for goodness sake, get someone out on the hot shooter. Every time I see some backup shooting guard triple his career high with 21 points all on threes I just want to claw my eyes out.

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- When Iowa's Jermain Davis pulled up for an open 3 as time expired and the Buckeyes ahead by just two, Ohio State star Evan Turner flashed back to Northwestern.
The Buckeyes fell to the Wildcats, 72-69, back on Feb. 18 on John Shurna's 3 with 3.3 seconds left, and Turner was scared it would happen again.
"I was just hoping it wouldn't go in," Turner said. "I was just thinking, 'Wow. If this goes in, it's going to be a long trip back to Ohio.' "
Fortunately for Ohio State, Davis' shot rimmed out and the Buckeyes men's basketball team survived what could have been a damaging loss to their at-large NCAA Tournament hopes.
Turner scored 22 points and dished out nine assists as Ohio State held off Iowa, 60-58, Tuesday to snap a three-game road losing streak.

Jon Diebler added 12 points for the Buckeyes (19-9, 9-8 Big Ten), who won their first road game since beating Indiana, 93-81, on Jan. 31.
Ohio State had to sweat it out, though, against an Iowa team that's now 12-4 at home. The game featured 14 lead changes, 10 ties and one very hectic final sequence.
Iowa's Jake Kelly, who continued a strong late-season push with 19 points and 11 rebounds, tied the game at 58 on a long 3 with 2:28 left.
