This can't be said enough. Me and a couple friends drove down to Bloomington on Friday night before the '05 game and went bar-hopping. No shit, every bar was playing Mellencamp relentlessly. Karaoke too. Saturday night after the game, same shit. Those hillbillys love some John Cougar. It's really weird. Pink houses and shit...

Sure, I love me some pink houses and Jack and Diane...that being said...he knew later in life that having "Cougar" as a middle name was super NTTAWWT...so he sold out. Elton John didn't stop sucking weiners when he realized it wasn't cool. Just be true.

So apparently the media, and select other fan bases thinking Michigan is legit, is the reason Hoosier Nation (are there enough fans for a 'nation'?) thinks they're for real this year.

I think they're better than in year's past, but I don't think that's saying much. Just like UM is better than last year. It would be kind of hard to be worse, no?

Anyway, based on the offensive display by both teams, and lack of defense, people think IU will be in this game and win it. I heard the Big Ten Network "analysts" think IU wins easily and will sack TP multiple times. Fiction can be fun.

I see IU hanging for a quarter, quarter and a half, but that's it. Having to put together long drives, because they will not be breaking off huge plays, is going to wear that team down. And with how fresh our Dline will be, they virtually stand no chance.

They do all their scoring in the 1st half and the game ends up 35-13.

LOL I just saw that to, do you know his name? He seemed to go out of his way to go negative on Ohio State. He even made it sound like comparing our defense to Iowa's was a joke.

EDIT THIS is the guy I was talking about who was all over Ohio State, also thinking the Kurt Coleman play was a dirty hit.

After seeing the B10 Network was bashing us. I went thru the NCAA stats and pulled some stats that could be used to develop comparison/ differences in who Indiana has played and our game and vice versa. The format is terrible but I couldn't think of a good way to join everything after I pulled stats so I'll put everything on here and then explain a few things that I saw.

I figured since our offense has been a work in progress and we didn't do anything from a passing standpoint that we would have tried with better weather, I didn't put how OSU's offense had done against the defenses they have faced. I mainly looked at stats to try to back or dispute what the media was saying on B10 network about Pryor getting eaten up and how they will beat us. But if they can't score they won't win. Minus the pick that put our defense in a precarious position early against USC(which some believe was stopped) OSU has only allowed 5 TD's pushing their scoring average down on Defense to 9.5 and 5th Nationally. OSU's defense has been put in bad situations many times this year and have only allowed 45 points...that's a great defense.... better than Iowa statistically. I would also be willing to put USC against State Penn anyday. The sacks they say are coming would have to be coming from thin air, because USC only got Pryor once and the sack vs Navy was on Bauserman(so 3 on TP). If a team should be getting ready for more sack potential it would be Indiana. The best defense sack-wise theve faced was W.Mich ranked 48th. These anouncers are either ignorrant or being controversial to get Ohio State fans interested in watching their channel because what they say isn't matching up. Indiana hasn't faced a scoring defense in the top 50 all year long. WAKE UP B10 NETWORK!!!

That immediately disqualifies him from having anything intelligent emerge from his lips short of "would you like fries with that?".

If you really want to be clever, send BTN emails that you would like for your local cable company to drop BTN as being a waste of time if they're going to use ESPiN retreads as "analysts" and cc: it to your provider.

Taking the stats a little further... As a measure of overall team efficiency, you can make a ratio of offensive points per play (OPPP) vs. defensive points per play allowed (DPPP).

Ohio State's OPPP/DPPP after 4 games is 2.474 - that's 0.445 OPPP to 0.205 DPPP allowed. This puts us at 12th overall in the nation.
Indiana's OPPP/DPPP after 4 games is 1.173 - that's 0.496 OPPP to 0.365 DPPP allowed. That puts them at 68th in the nation.

So they have a similarly efficient offense, but significantly weaker defense.

FWIW, Oklahoma leads the nation in OPPP/DPPP with a whopping 8.187 (0.567 OPPP to 0.069 DPPP).

Gerry Dinardo said something aobut OSU having a great run defense. Chris said something to the effect of..."Iowa has the better run defense easily"

I was looking up some numbers and we give up about 50 less yards a game than Iowa. Not to mention we played Navy and they run it like 100 times a game.

Helps to get to beat on Tulsa...

Anyway, I think its hilarious that the B10 Net is thinking we'll lose...scUM is better, sure, but not THAT good. When your QW is over a Notre Lame squad that struggled against MSU and PU...not good.

Our defense will hae a heyday with their offense, creating points and the like...plus, our offense will get on track at some point, and IU is the team to do it against :)

EDIT: Thinking this belongs in the game thread...feel free to move it!

After watching Indiana-scUM, I've decided the scUM's defense isnt very good more than Indiana's offense is explosive. Not too worried about this one.

I'll be at a wedding in Youngstown.

I haven't asked if he's been gracious enough to arrange that a tv with Big Ten network be available at the reception. I always appreciate an open bar, but football season weddings are such a pain. Could be the first Buckeyes game I haven't watched live in over a decade.

To take things further... i was gonna put this in the defense thread but we got it going here... OSU faced 2 teams in the top 16 in rush offense(USC and Navy) Iowa faced 2 teams in the top 21(Arizona and Iowa St.)

Rush offenses and how OSU or IOWA fared

USC-16th-216.50-osu-118(98.5 better)
Navy- 6th-244.50-osu-186(58.5 better)

Iowa St-21st-207.25-Iowa-190(17.25 better)
Arizona-13th-223.25-Iowa-148(75.25 better)

Stats Don't Match up. OSU has a better Rush Defense.

Nationally
OSU-24th-99.75 gm
Iowa-61st-132.75 gm

Plus Iowa played a Div 2 opponent and almost got beat.

B10 Network says things they can't back up.
