suck it, hosers.
I actually just looked up the bowl affiliations that might be playing on that date to make sure the Big Ten didn't have any tie ins. I think we're safe.the basketball team might watch a rerun on their flight home:)BB73;1847492; said:Isn't there also some football game on tomorrow night?
moreThe No.2 men's basketball team in the country also will be the second choice in its own hometown tonight.
"What else is going on?" coach Thad Matta said, feigning sincerity, when asked yesterday whether he thought many televisions would be tuned to his team's game at Iowa.
The basketball game begins about half an hour after the sixth-ranked Buckeyes football team kicks off the Sugar Bowl game against Arkansas, so most TVs will be on the season finale in football rather than an early Big Ten basketball game against a conference also-ran.
Matta probably was aware of his program's spot in Buckeye Nation's pecking order before he was hired in 2004, but he has not let it impede him. On the contrary, he has taken advantage of football Saturdays in Ohio Stadium to help his recruiting.
After Ohio State accepted the Sugar Bowl bid, Matta had the opportunity to switch the basketball game to last night but chose to stand pat because the scheduling is better for his team.
"It's unfortunate, but I know bowl games," Matta said. "That's the Final Four, so rightfully so, our fans should be tuned in."
Whether the Buckeyes might enjoy a tape-delayed telecast of the Sugar Bowl on their chartered flight home from Iowa after the game remains to be seen.
"Can we watch it on the plane?" Dallas Lauderdale said to an athletic department staffer.
"None of the coaches have made it a priority," Lauderdale said. "We're definitely hoping Ohio State comes up with the victory, but we're going (to Iowa) on a mission. This isn't vacation. We're going there to win a basketball game. That's our main focus."
The main focus in practice the past few days was defense. If the Buckeyes don't defend Iowa better than they did Indiana on Friday, they may be watching their own replay on the way home.
After dissecting video of the win at Indiana, Matta said the Buckeyes "weren't as aware as we needed to be" on defense. "We blew assignments, we blew switches, we blew matchups. The first play of the game in our transition defense, we give them a layup. Our minds just weren't exactly where they needed to be."
