Top Ten RBs for next year....

God... The Schnittker Experiment was an abomination.

Sorry, I had to get that out.

I just remember before the season thinking "He was a FB, which means he's a bruiser. He's gotta blow up a LB sometime this season to get into the endzone. It'll be fun to watch!"

No, no, no, no. I wasn't comparing them to Bettis in terms of talent, I was saying Bettis took carries away from Parker inside the 10 therefore getting lots of touchdowns just like Troy and Brandon did to Pitt.
and I'm saying that if troy/brandon get that many carries inside the 10, there is a problem. That approach would not have been used with michael bush in the backfield.

Louisville doesn't have a mobile quarterback and they also don't have a fullback that's bigger than their runningback so of course they wouldn't have done that.
the #2 back in the nation, which would land him in the top-15/20 of the draft next year... should be getting the ball on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and possibly 4th down.

Teams ride players like Peterson, Bush, Lynch for all they are worth. Would Clarett be put on the sidelines in those situations?

The #2 back in the nation does not get taken out in the redzone, especially for 'okay' redzone threats like TS and BS.

You felt booker splitting carries was a statement about his ability, but that logic does not apply here for pittman in the redzone?

Pittman was the clear #1 runningback but JT felt like he had other options down near the goaline which would be better for getting the ball into the endzone. We have other options down there, unlike Oklahoma, Cal, and Louisville. And have we already played next season? This is just speculation on my part. For all I know he could tear his ACL on the first play in the Northern Illinois game. I would say Troy is more than an "ok" option. He can run very well and throw which keeps defenses honest. Brandon obviously wasn't very good down there so JT stopped using him so much after the first few games. And Clarett was more of a power runner.

their list of incoming impact freshman for the Big 10 features both Chris Wells and Robert Rose.

Anyone else see the pic they use for Lemming?

I don't think anyone said pittman was going to stink up the joint next year. In fact, I have stated multiple times that the kid is a stud and could breakout next year even more. You demanded to hear what player besides peterson could be placed higher, and now you are receiving that response.

But it's not next year, and until that year passes, Pittman still has a lot more to prove to deserve such untouchable status. He did not produce with consistency like bush/irons. If you disagree, then please explain their shortcomings.

I seriously doubt Schnittker would have seen much PT as a #2 RB at many top BCS schools. I can buy troy due to JT's playcalling, but schnittker simply was a slim FB who was neither powerful or fast.

Somehow this has degenerated into a discussion about Antonio's shortcomings. Lets all just accept what we know. We are returning a 1,300 yard back with a wealth of depth behind him to include one who looks like a future stud. I wouldn't trade Antonio for anybody elso on that list for our style of play (save for Peterson:) ).

am I? Pittman not scoring TDs was no small matter, and we lost two pivotal games during that stretch. I do not think it was his fault (as much as the JT playcalling and TS audibles), but it was definitely a weakness.

I assume you watched both losses. "Not scoring TDs" was a weakness of the entire offense in both of those games. Pittman was 18th in the country in rushing last year, on an offense that didn't gel until mid-season mainly because of the early QB situation and a developing OL. There are at least nine guys who finished ahead of him (seven seniors along with juniors Bush and Maroney) who will be gone this season, putting him at least ninth among returning rushers.

Despite the losses of Mangold and Sims, I think our OL will be a little better overall early in the season than it was last year, so that combined with a more experienced and physically stronger Pittman leads me to believe he's definitely among the top 10 rushers in the country.
