Trying to pick, right now, those who will be drafted in the top 10 next year is futile, but no one is retarded for thinking that Troy Smith should be considered right along with Brady Quinn.
Size wise, he isn't a prototypical pro QB. That will affect him in the draft.
Let's put it this way, I'd be damn shocked to see Smith get picked over Quinn. Quinn plays in a pro system, and has great size. Smith is a remarkable college QB, but I doubt that he'll do much in the NFL as a QB. Look at Josh Harris from BGSU, he was awesome in college......about the same height, and now he's struggling to make a roster.
Neither are half the guys in the league.
Drew Brees-6'0" 209 lbs.
Jake Delhomme-6'2" 215 lbs.
Brett Favre-6'2" 222 lbs.
Jeff Garcia(he used to be good)-6'1" 200 lbs.
Rex Grossman(not the greatest but still a starter)-6'1" 218 lbs.
Donovan McNabb-6'2" 240 lbs.
Steve McNair-6'2" 230 lbs.
Michael Vick-6'0" 215 lbs.
Kurt Warner-6'2" 219 lbs.
There are plenty of guys who aren't 6'5" but still having long careers.
...and a lot of those guys were relatively low draft picks because they aren't "prototypical".
OSU tried to use Troy at other positions and he never did much with it, and wasn't a very good KR when they put him back there. If he does have a future in the NFL it will be at QB because he isn't fast enough to play another position like WR or RB.
From last April:
Brees was a second round pick.
Brees & Grossman would have likely have been top 10 picks if they were taller (and if they had stronger arms).
Delhomme, Garcia & Warner were not drafted at all.
First, Carp was overshadowed by Hawk, plain and simple. Greenway suffered a major knee injury in the spring of 2002 yet still played most of 2002, and came back to win the starting job in 2003. He's a three year starter, while Carp has half that starting experience plus a Jackie Chan-like history of leg injuries -- either two or three in high school when he was at LHS, plus the ankle injury during the Michigan game.I cannot believe when I look back at how ridiculous the media love affair was with Iowa last year at this time. Chad Greenway the #3 prospect overall? PLEASE. That guy was lucky he was taken at #18, and I will guarantee you that 5 years from now Vikes' fans will be cursing their management for choosing Greenway when Carp was still on the board.

Coming off that injury, Carp should feel blessed to still be picked in the 1st round.
I'm not saying it's right; I think Carp is the better player of the two, but I can't fault an NFL GM for picking Greenway, who started darn near 40 games.
