No. 21 Xavier 79, Creighton 66 -- Brookhaven graduate Drew Lavender scored 17 points in the first half last night, and Xavier used a 14-2 run to set up a victory over previously undefeated Creighton in Cincinnati.
The Musketeers (7-1) won their sixth in a row behind Lavender, a 5-foot-7 point guard who had been limited to directing the offense. Given a chance to shoot, he showed he hasn't lost his touch.
Lavender dribbled through every full-court press that Creighton (5-1) threw at him, then made shots or passed off for a basket at the other end. He had a season-high 28 points and a career-high 10 assists.
No. 5 Georgetown 70, Alabama 60 -- DaJuan Summers had 18 points and nine rebounds and Georgetown (6-0) dominated Alabama (4-3) down the stretch in the first game of the SEC/Big East Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
