UCLA also has a former AAU coach of his, which is a relationship not to be overlooked. Not sure how this one ends up and who wins the tug of war but UCLA seems to be the (at least temporary) odds on favorite.

so with Jefferson leaning towards dook and now this does OSU strike out for the '12 class?

Thanks for the info 22. In your opinion if we do miss on parker will we just bank the schollie and concentrate on the '13 class?

Probably. I can't see them after any JUCO's. They will watch closely for coaches losing their jobs at the end of the season. Some unsigned recruits come free at that time and other kids get releases from their LOI's.

What really needs to happen is guys like Amir Williams and Trey McDonald have to take the next step and produce. If that happens missing this year doesn't hurt so bad.

Parker, Muhammad Still Considering UCLA Despite Story

Tony Parker?s father said his son is still considering UCLA in the wake of the Sports Illustrated story, but that the report is not ?a good thing? and it was a ?bad reflection? on Bruins coach Ben Howland.

?Yes, we [are] still considering UCLA,? Virgil Parker told SNY.tv Thursday evening by phone.

Asked if the story would hurt UCLA?s chances of landing Parker, a 6-foot-9 forward from Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove High, and 6-6 wing Shabazz Muhammad of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, Parker said: ?Not really. I don?t think that would hurt their chances of getting them.

?I don?t think it?s a good thing, but at the same time ? if that was going on it?s just like Kevin Love said, it?s just a couple of bad apples.?

Parker told SNY.tv on Monday that his son was considering Kansas, UCLA, Duke, Ohio State, Memphis and Georgia and would announce at the McDonald?s All-American Game.

The SI story referenced past UCLA players involved in fights, disrespecting the program and using alcohol and drugs.

Parker said the family had a discussion about the SI article once it came out.

?Tony and my wife and I had a talk about that article and it?s really unfortunate that they recruited those type of guys there,? he said. ?And it?s a bad reflection on Coach Howland but at the same time it?s more of a bad reflection on the kids.?

Parker said he believes his son is ?a good kid.?

?I tell him all the time, either you?re going to be a positive influence on somebody or you?re going to allow them to be a negative influence on you,? he said. ?He?s always been a hard worker and he has a 3.5 GPA.?

Why on earth would anyone, let alone "some guys" transfer out if three starting spots are up for grabs next year? No sense this makes.

Parker, Goodwin Receive McDonald's Honor

For 35 years, McDonald's has been honoring the best high school basketball players in the country and former Georgia standouts such as Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, Derrick Favors and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope have earned the honor over the last 10 years.

On Wednesday, two more players were recognized and honored at a Lithonia McDonald's as Miller Grove's Tony Parker and Southwest DeKalb's William "Shaq" Goodwin were presented with All-American plaques. Friends, family, teammates and coaches all gathered inside the Panola Road McDonald's as Goodwin and Parker accepted their awards and invitations to the 35th Annual McDonald's All-American Game which will be played Wednesday, March 28 in Chicago.

Southwest DeKalb players wore "Team Shaq" shirts as Goodwin accepted his award. "Three years ago I'd never have thought I'd be here," said a humbled Goodwin. Before the event started an obviously-excited Goodwin worked the room, shaking everyone's hand, smiling for each photo and thanking his supporters. "It is a great honor (to be a McDonald's All-American)," continued Goodwin after being recognized.

The Southwest DeKalb power forward, whose team finished runner-up to Parker's Miller Grove squad in the AAAA finals last Friday night, also won the 2012 AJC Slam Dunk championship. He will head to Memphis next season, where he hopes to play both basketball and football.

Tony Parker thanked his mother, his teammates and his coach, Sharman White, during his acceptance speech. "Thank you to Coach White for being on me for four long years," laughed Parker at the podium. Parker noted that he had been working all of his life for this honor and for what comes after the game: college. "You really have to know the ins and outs of schools," said Parker of trying to decide which school he will attend next year. "You have to take your family into consideration."

Many speculate that Parker will announce his choice at the McDonald's All-American game. Kansas, UCLA, Duke and Ohio State lead, but Parker did admit that Georgia "has a chance." Teammate Brandon Morris has committed to Mark Fox's program, while former teammate Donte Williams started nearly the entire season for the Dawgs this year.

Will UGA pull off one of biggest recruiting UPSETS in years?

UGA appears to be in prime position to pull off one of the biggest recruiting upsets in the history of the school?s basketball program.

McDonald?s All-American Tony Parker has the Bulldogs among his finalists, along with Duke, Ohio State, Kansas, UCLA, Memphis and Georgetown. Parker is an Atlanta schoolboy legend, leading Miller Grove High School to four straight state championships in basketball.

The 6-foot-9, 280-pound Parker is ranked by ESPNU as the nation?s No. 21 overall basketball prospect.

Duke?s Mike Krzyzewksi is scheduled to be at Miller Grove on Thursday, and Ohio State?s Thad Matta may visit on Friday. UCLA coach Ben Howland met with Parker on Tuesday,

?My recruiting is going pretty steady,? Parker told the AJC. ?My family and I are starting to narrow it down, really getting to the nitty gritty on picking a school and deciding which one fits me the best.?

Much to everyone?s surprise, that school may end up being UGA. Parker took an unofficial visit to both UGA and Georgia Tech earlier this year, but most considered the Bulldogs an afterthought with so many basketball heavyweights involved. While Parker claims no favorite, he made it clear this week that he?s seriously considering UGA.

?Georgia is a great school, and I think Coach Mark Fox is doing a great job,? Parker said. ?They really achieved great things this year with the team that they had. I think it?s great that Coach Fox is ranked No. 1 in player development [by the website TheRealGM.com]. I think he does a lot for ?bigs? [big men], and he has a great offense for ?bigs,? too.

?When he had Trey Thompkins, Coach Fox did a lot of things for his game and made Trey look really good ? Georgia has been in there the whole time with me. Coach Fox is a persistent guy.?
