They generally are overrated every year. Smart is only marginally better than Richt, and I say marginally only because Smart so far is a better recruiter at this stage. Results on the field are about the same.

And with the QBs they have they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Love our input from out UGA poster but I just haven't understood the UGA surge the past few years in recruiting.

Kirby is a good recruiter and you have a very fertile recruiting ground in which to recruit, where you don't have to go far to find really good talent. It's hard not to win 10 games a year with what UGA and surrounding area has to offer to attract a potential recruit.

I think season outcome bias is a bit of a thing here. Georgia contends just fine; my issue is their offensive approach. I can see quarterback reluctance because you won’t be granted much freedom and Smart is a bit vanilla.

But defensively? They make sense.

I’ll bet top-10 picks is profoundly disproportionate in favor of OSU; I have no doubt but then you consider opportunity cost when a kid can still get to the league and still stay relatively close to home throughout college.

So in short, I’m baffled by the confusion. If you’re going to apply titles as a barometer of program excellence are we going to collectively admit we haven’t been in LSU’s echelon since the early 2000s?

Put their "List of X football seasons" wikipedia pages next to each other and it's not even a close comparison. But they're the flagship in one of the best football-talent states in America, and have success in the SEC, so it's not surprising to me that they recruit well.

Thank you, anyone who thinks Georgia has been as consistent of a program as OSU is straight up wrong. Not saying I'm confused as to why big time players are going to UGA, there's plenty of reasons. But the two programs are not on the same level unless you only consider the past three seasons and nothing else.

There are four states where you can recruit an entire team from in your state and be competitive on a national level. Georgia is one of those states. Ohio used to be but has dropped a level in that regard. Fortunately, Ohio State is a national brand and can recruit anywhere and be in contention for top kids.

He didn't say UGA players, he said high school talent from the state of Georgia to pick from. Including kids that could and do end up elsewhere.

Research the statistics in the past 10 years. It is well documented that Georgia (#4), Cali (#3), Florida (#2), and Texas (#1) have produced more upper-end talent than any other states. Part of that is due to the sheer size of the state, number of kids to choose from, but also bc they offer the best HS football across the country.

To @Bill Lucas 's point, you could put together 4 very good teams if you assembled kids from those 4 states and put them all on their own team. As good as Kirby has recruited, they have lost a lot of that high-end, in-state talent to other schools.

5-star cornerback Tony Grimes won’t visit for spring game

“We are still coming to Ohio State, but not for the spring game,” Glover told Lettermen Row. “But we are certainly coming for a three or four-day visit. That is coming directly from me.”

The connection between Kerry Coombs and the Grimes camp is growing strong, and that’s the motivating factor behind the upcoming visit.

“We are in heavy communication with Kerry Coombs,” Glover said. “We are working on a concrete date for the visit. Ohio State is a priority program for us.”

I think this is great news as the Grimes seem to want more individual attention where they can gather details of their future plan.
