Kind of surprised to hear that Tony Alford is leaving Ohio State for (basically) the same position at scUM. Alford has always came across as a great guy, loves working with the kids, and is happy at Ohio State. 11W reported that his base salary at Ohio State was $772,500 and received a $131,325 bonus for the bowl game. He'll have a base salary of $850,00 at scUM. The increase in base salary would be reduced by the Federal government by 37% too. I have no inside knowledge whatsoever; however in my humble opinion there has to be more to the story than has come out so far. The big change at Ohio State on the offensive side is the addition of Chip Kelly as OC. I just wonder if Alford's departure has anything to do with Kelly.

“I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ME”: TONY ALFORD REVEALS REASONS HE LEFT OHIO STATE FOR MICHIGAN AND THANKS BUCKEYE COACHES, PLAYERS AND FANS FOR PAST NINE YEARS

“I thought it was a great opportunity for me,” Alford said. “I have so much respect for (Michigan head coach) Sherrone (Moore). I’ve known him for quite a while. I just thought it was time. It might have been time for both parties. I don’t know. But I thought it was time, and that it was a good opportunity.”

On Wednesday, Alford thanked Ohio State’s coaches, players and fans for their hospitality over the past decade.

“I have to say this. I have so much respect for Ohio State and the Ohio State community and what they presented to me and my family through the years. It was not an easy decision,” Alford said. “Anytime you are somewhere for as long as I was – for nine years – there were some groups that had been set in professionally and personally. That was difficult. But at the end of the day, it was something I thought I couldn’t pass up. It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

A more likely story: The writing was on the wall. You were told to get it done or get out and you knew you couldn't get it done. So, you made a childish emotional decision, convincing yourself that Moore will not be there in two years and you can be head coach. You thought you could pull Ohio State players to follow you. Now, you know how big a mistake you made. It's too late and nobody is fooled.

By the way, sunshine, "groups that had been set in" sounds a lot like the depersonalizing murmurs of someone who would benefit from therapy.
