I’m pretty sure there were people here who claimed they wouldn’t want Meyer coaching the Bucks while he was torching the Bucks.
I was (and still am - even moreso now) ok with the players he recruited at Florida, if for no other reason than it changed the type of player he recruited when he got here. He was no longer willing to take as many (or any) questionable-character guys. When Meyer was at Florida, his mentality was to win at all costs and he got some guys who were straight up thugs. NFL talent-thugs, but thugs nonetheless. As his time at UF came to a close, and for a few years after, well, we all know the story. It made the school look bad & it made him look bad. I think Urban reflected upon this when he started here and made a change in his approach to recruiting. tOSU football program is in a better place because of it, and I for one, am grateful to him.
Agree. That’s why I give pause to some of the losses..he liked not having a 3 am phone call.I agree with all of that. Clearly, he learned something during his time at Florida and fundamentally changed how he recruited and how he dealt with off-field incidents. Anyone who can look at the Robie and Hyde cases, and say he was running the same kind of program that he ran at Florida can fuck all the way off.
Clown show was Meyer’s description of the WRs. I’ll bet none of those guys took that well. It might have eventually scared them into performing better, but I’ll bet initially it scared them in a manner that made the clown show worse.A while back, Zach Smith had Philly Brown on his podcast as guest. Since Philly was there during the transition of Tress-Fickell-Urban, Zach asked what he thought of Urban and his staff coming in. Philly kind of chuckled and said rather that he hated all of them. He went on to explain that under Urban's regime, everyone was terrified to make any mistakes; that Urban was so intense that it scared guys into performing better. Looking back, I'm pretty sure this applied both on the field as well as off of it.
I heard that as well. I even went looking for a confirmation pic and was gonna post it, and basically say what you said. lmao Alas, I didn't find a pic.
