Game Thread Toledo at tOSU, Sept. 10, Noon ET, BTN

Marshall in 04, SDSU, Ohio in 08, Navy last year, Purdue. I am pretty sure you would have bet your check that those games wouldn't have been close also.

There is a game that for some reason people are pumping up as a big challenge the week after. If tOSU comes out flat, than this is a game. If they come out hyped and ready to kill someone then they roll... It's that simple. We have a young team and mindset matters.

My point is that like Toledo, those teams suck too. Toledo sucks. Lets not talk them up like they're anything more than what they are. Whether or not we come out flat and play like shit against them doen't make them any less shitty. I'll be thoroughly embarrassed by anything less than a 21 point margin of victory.
I don't ever expect anything less than complete focus out of a Buckeye team. While they may have come out flat a few times over the past 7 years you referenced, I don't expect that to happen any time they take the field. I expect the best because I feel we are the best. For those of you talking up Toledo saying, "We need to watch out...yada yada yada" take that shit somewhere else. I feel like there's a group of Buckeye fans out there that have been talking up Toledo because they are seriously scared of losing to Toledo after we have endlessly made fun of Michigan for losing to them. Get the fuck out of here with that. Prepare your plungers.

Now that the football season has started, I got a fever. And I need more football, but not just any football; Buckeye football.

My first post was to compare Akron to Toledo. When those two teams play, Toledo will win by quite a wide margin. It was more of a point of just how bad Akron is. They have nobody. It's sad. We could play Akron 100 times, and we'd win every single time, with no games even being close.

But, there are a few MAC schools, and other mid major teams that aren't Akron. The talent gap between the perennial powers, like Ohio State, and some of the other mid major schools has definitely narrowed. Would Ohio State win the MAC every year if they were in it, of course. Would they go undefeated every year...I'd say many more years than not. But I'm sure every now and then, there would be a close game, and on a rare occasion, we'd lose one.

It Toledo good? No. Is anybody in the MAC a top 25 team this year? No. Are we? Definitely. If we struggle with Toledo, is that embarrassing? Absolutely!

But I am saying that Akron was a gimmie. Toledo is not. We should win by at four touchdowns. But we have the youngest Ohio State team in recent memory. There is a small chance, that this is a close game, even though it will have to be because of our errors, not Toledo's power. But we could have pooped ourselves last week and still beat Akron.

When we beat Toledo, i'm not gonna act like the win means anything. But if we shut them out...I think that will be a hell of a accomplishment.

This. I think it's completely ignorant for someone to say Toledo sucks.....just because they are in the MAC. Beckman is a very good coach, if anyone remembers, he was a part of the staff a few years back. He understand Ohio State. Sure, on pure talent we should blow the doors off of them. With this said, there have been so many MAC upsets of good teams over the past 15 years that it's silly to write off the conference favorite.

Before some react with chest thumping, perhaps they should do a tad bit of research and eat a slice of humble pie.

Toledo was 7-1 in the MAC last year - and lost to Arizona and Boise St by a combined 82 points. They are not THAT much better than last year. Nobody in the MAC ever gets that much better. If they are not a gimme it is because the putt is two inches longer than a club length.

We can lose this game - but they can't beat us.

To put it statistically:

The MAC, more than any other conference, underperforms Differential Statistical Analysis (DSA) during bowl season.

As many of you know, DSA is a way of using stats to predict the outcomes of games. In conference, late in the season, it is pretty good. For bowl season, between conferences of comparable strength, it is pretty good.

However, because DSA compares you to your opponents' opponents; it is heavily dependent on conference strength. Combine that little factoid with the fact that the MAC is the only conference to have underperformed the DSA prediction for every bowl game they've participated in over the last 10 years. What do you get? That's right: The B1G's Little Sister.

This is my point. If both teams play their A game it is a 21-28 point OSU win. If they play bad it's a 40 point win and if OSU plays bad with Toledo playing A ball it could be a toss up. Not likely. But plausible.
