Today's negative recruiting story is brought to you by....

Guys, part of the problem is perception is reality and every fricking media member turned the NC game, Sugar and Rose Bowls into a crucification of the best Midwest teams (Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan) and completely prostituted the good ole boy SEC as a result.

Furthermore, recruiting services tend to rate kids out of the South or West higher (at least the skilled positions) and therefore, the Midwest kids get inferiority complexes...which may explain RoJo and Dionte Allen's decisions to go to USC and Free Shoes U, respectively, and get away from the Midwestern bias/negative slow stereotypes.

Having said that, I would love to see Beanie break off an 80 yard run when we play SC in 2008 and then hear about how the Big 10 all of a sudden has "more athletes" and is "so much faster" than the PAC 10. What a JOKE!

Amazing.. We play one bad game and all the sudden its because we are slow. We were slower at 1 position than Florida, and that was Offensive Tackle. You couple a pretty suspect game plan, over confidence, 51 days off, plus a slow start and thats how you get a 24 point loss.

Let the schools' like USC, Miami, and whoever else have the "we have better speed" reputation.. because we have reputations like "we have put more players into the league" also "We have THE best facilities in the nation" and finally "We care about you as a person just not a player"

I'm just glad Tressel tells it like it is.. Doesn't sugar coat anything, doesn't promise a player anything, and surely doesn't dis any other schools.

The SEC doesn't waste time with subtle stuff like negative recruiting. They just shove the cash across the table and ask if its enough. :wink2:
That only happened in the SEC while Ron Zook was around (I don't know how else he can talk guys into playing for him)...then Urban Meyer had to kick most of those guys off our team for getting in fights with the Frats on campus...

Well a quick glance at the NCAA major infraction database tells us that Zook wasn't exactly the only SEC coach cheating.

SEC schools with major infractions since 1990: 12

B10 schools same period: 5

Finally something we can all agree the SEC outdoes the B10 in.

I highly doubt that high school football players from the midwest have an inferiority complex due to Scout and Rivals rankings, or that Allen's and Johnson's decisions on where to go to school had much to do with broad regional perceptions.

Who recruited Chris Leak?

I'm aware the UF isn't the only SEC team. I was not trying to defend the other schools, I was trying to make a point the Meyer took our program and corrected a lot of the problems.

Yes Zook recruited Chris Leak and A LOT of our other starters from last year. Pretty much everyone left from Zook was a starter. I beleive 23 of Zook's recruits were on our team last year, 21 were starters. However, there were 18 of his recruits that were kicked off the team during spring practices from Meyer's first year. Those that stayed had to straighten up. I don't get how guys (even when he was at UF) commited to him, he makes promises they have to know aren't real, he talks out both sides of his mouth and makes no sense the majority of the time.

i'm not accusing meyer of committing any ncaa infractions or any "wrong doings". i might be ignorant to say this, because i don't really know how often do kids decommit from their orginally intented school to another, but the gator's '07 recruiting season sure made me wonder about florida coaches' tactics. one would think it's a basic decency and a display of respect for other coaches to stay away from a kid who has made his verbal commitment known to the public. like i've said, i might be the minority or even naive, but i have full confidence in coach Tressel to practice not only integrity but also self-discipline in this "game" we call "recruiting".
