To cheer or not to cheer

hoat

I lick windows. What's your point?
I understand rooting for one team or the other doesn't have any outcome in the end. But I am sharing my opinion to see how everyone else thinks.

I cheer for Ohio State first and foremost and then Big Ten. I root for Michigan to win unless it affects where Ohio State finishes. Although the way I would love to see it play out is both Ohio State and Michigan are undefeated playing for the Big Ten title and a shot at the NC. Of course with tOSU beating the crap out of them and rolling through the NC. When scUM loses 1 game I start rooting for them to lose every game after that. (I'm weird I know) I'm not a Michigan fan by any means, and don't want them to win the Big Ten title, but that would be a huge game at the end of the year.(bigger than it usually is)

When it comes to bowl games I always root for the Big Ten team. I am tired of hearing the Big Ten conference is weak in football. Just because we have teams that beat the crap out of each other we shouldn't be labeled as weak.

Was just wondering if I'm alone in thise type of attitude or if there are more people out there as warped as I am.

I cheer for tOSU.
I always cheer for the Big 10 in bowl games, but I never cheer for scUM. Even when they play Notre Dame. I just get a little smile when one of them loses.
I guess I would prefer scUM to have one loss (to MSU) going into The Game, but I can't root for them. I've tried, it just doesn't work. Once I see those hideous helmets it's over with. When they played Texas last year I wanted them to win, because they were the Big 10 champ and I wanted them to represent....but when they lost I was happy.
I do root against Nebraska, unless they are playing scUM or Notre Dame, and I like to see USC lose, but don't really care that much about them.

I would love to have The Game feature two undefeated teams each year with Big Ten and NC implications on the line. I have given up on that dream since it is damn near a certainty that every year scUM will lose at least one game in September. It seems that scUM will always lose at least one game in September and maybe that is due to them not being able to handle the pressure of high expectations/pre-season overrating.

The only thing that comes close to my love for all things OSU is my hatred for all things ND. I can't "cheer" for scUM when the play ND, it just isn't possible, but I smile when they score against the Domers and when they beat the Domers.

In bowl games, I always want the Big Ten to win. However there are some Big Ten teams that, again, I just can't "cheer" for. Smile when they score and win, but can't cheer for them.

An ideal scUM season for me is 10-2. Start 10-0, lose to tOSU (of course), and then lose their Bowl game. Other Big-10 teams I root for in virtually every case.

Regarding ND, at this point I think an ideal scenario for them would be 1-10, with their lone win every year coming over USC.

Of course all of those numbers will change soon with the 12-game schedule.

In Mich v. ND games I cheer for a poorly played contest ending where one team makes a mistake that is so ridiculous nothing but public scorn can result for either school. The team making it for making it, and the team winning for having to win on such absurdity.

As long as the Buckeyes are winning, I could care less. But if there is a situation where OSU needs a Michigan victory to either be stronger in the polls or to beat an opponent that could tie us - get em Wolves. But, if we lose, I love to see a Michigan loss as well (like the Texas week).

I root for scUM to lose all their games...but I always want to see them go undefeated into The Game. When they lose thier first game, I don't get disapointed though...I just say how bad scUM is and how they always lose a game they shouldn't early and that they suck. Plus this year, it's not as big a deal to me if The Game is two undefeated teams. It's happened before...and i'm sure it will happen again, SOMEDAY, hopefully in my lifetime...and when it does, I want it to be a home game for the Buckeyes. The Game is awesome...but it's even more awesome every even year when it is at The 'Shoe. There is NO PLACE I'd rather be, than in Ohio Stadium for The Game...NO PLACE. I get chills thinking about it. Sometimes the games have ended not so happy...but before and during...my God. I spend every day for 2 years straight dreaming about that day.

i see it the same way you do.

Team 1st
Conference 2nd
Other schools in the state 3rd

I always want to see scum have 1 loss, to the buckeyes, but when the lose early i do hope to see them lose more.

pretty much right on in my book!

This may seem re-dundent or over and over again but i have said it a hundred times in threads before. Without Ohio State and Michigan the BIG10 would be fruitless. Even Northwestern back in the 50's and 60's were always a pain in the ass to Ohio state and Michigan and they were supposed to be the doormat of the Big10 then.

Times have changed thannks to sources like ESPN, writers of Sporting News, S/I. and espn magazine and local sport talkshow radio hosts. We listen to these A-holes spew out there senseless blurbs and we fall for it, especially if our favorite teams are winning. When they are not, its a different story and we jump off the bandwagons.

For every team that wins or loses we have to tune in and listen to the excuses or reasons why they won or lost. We JUST have to have a good explanation why. When the game is over its over. In college football today there is so much parity and any team is capable of beating another regardless of the spread.

Yet college football continues to be an exciting game to watch simply because these kids give it thier all in games that all comes down to pride.
Its an Icon worth following every saturday and even into the bowl games over the Holidays. I for one will always pull for every BIG10 team entered into that contest. Go BIG10.

my allegiances change from day to day, for instance when ohio state wins i'm already in a happy mood so i could say what the hell, i can root for michigan today just because i want them to get their hopes up for the late november showdown. If ohio state loses, then i usually start punching random inanimate or animate objects and then start screaming for everyone to die. so then i want everyone to lose or just for all the remaining games of the day to end in ties. and if notre dame comes a play away from beating the number one team in the polls and the following week they don't move down a single spot, (while ohio state lost on the last drive of a game to a better team than the number one team in the polls and we jump back 5 or 6 spots in the polls) then i start shooting...... but thats just me
