Tin Man Triathlon Hawaii

Actually, the swim and transitions were improved from my previous four Tinmans, especially the transitions considering they lengthened the T1 (swim to bike) transition by a good 100+ yards (fuckers). The bike portion was not bad (the time was worse than it felt), but the run just killed me like always. As soon as I got off the bike for the T2 (bike to run) transition, I knew my legs weren't going to cooperate. Anyone who has run any significant distance race and has "bonked" knows what I mean. No matter how much I forced my legs to run they just did not want to comply. Took me 1:24:34 to "run" 6 miles...oh well, got my Finishers T-shirt. :smash:

Just out of curiosity what do you think made you bonk? Did you use up too much on the bike? Need a gel? Lack of training (although we could all say this)?

The worst thing about running that I have found in my experience is that if you don't do it year round you'll lose the base.

Still Milli, not too many people do the multisports races because it takes so much time to prepare. Give yourself some credit for that.

He said tin. Get your metals straight, ekeen. :shake:

I caught that later......duh. I've never done an Ironman.....if I did maybe I would have better caught that. :!

My best guess is that virtually all our training sessions cover two of the three events, and doing all three during the race may have taxed the legs more than I was used to. Still, I think I need to put more work in on our non-session days...I have a bad habit of slacking off on our "on your own" training days. I'm also going to take another training session during the fall (starts next week and runs through mid-Oct), so that should help out quite a bit.

How was your overall time compared to last year?

I think I actually ended 5 minutes or so slower than last year because my run was worse than last year's (running the last 2 miles on a pulled right calf muscle was not good for the overall time)...

The shear amount of time needed to prepare by even an amateur places huge demands on time and dedication.
These events keep getting more and more competitive so that even amateurs that want to place high(national/international) are using performance enhancing drugs.
One theory is you try to be excellent in one category(run/swim/bike), and just very good in the other two.
