Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

I find this thought interesting Jwins.. is that what you think we saw with Cardale during the beginning of the year.

Don't get me started on the tight ends.
It's absolutely what we saw, and Tim didn't pick the qb (not that such was the primary issue).

Even if they don't make many changes, I want to see torrance in a sub package. Not a wildcat but a stunt double to limit the danger to the star qb.

Yeah but what about all of the brilliant hayseed Nebraska fans who knew Beck sucked because he didn't turn Taylor Martinez into Joe Montana?

He sucked there because he turned Martinez into Joe Bauserman and Tommy Armstrong into Steve Bellisari. Mixed metaphors but his quarterbacks have a pattern of regressing and that has only continued in the one year we've seen him here. I remember watching them and seeing the huge potential early on for both players, only to see both be dumpster fires within a year or two.

And the debate here really shouldn't be "is Beck a competent coach at the college level generally?" The question should be is he the best QB coach/OC in the country or close to it? If that answer is no, then he shouldn't be here. Urban can get the best here, whoever that is (see Greg Schiano). Or see Withers being asked to leave and we get Ash to come in, who rocked it for us.

Even if Beck stays on the staff next year, be damn sure that he will have one of the shortest leashes you've seen for an assistant here.

I think if we looked behind the curtain, we'd see that Beck had little role in pregame prep or in-game calls in the final two games of the season. I suspect that'll be the case in 2016.

Still have 2 risks there:
- Can Warinner coach up the OLine from the press box? We tried that early in 2015 with 4 returning starters from a championship team that ran roughshod in the playoffs. Decided it wasn't working and needed Warinner on the sidelines. With only 2 returning starters ... is it going to work this time?
- He's still coaching QBs

If there was ever a Buckeye coach or player that needed to be killing it in interviews and press clippings right now, taking responsibility for errors on the season, its Tim Beck.

I think Urban did a fantastic job recently with his interviews, being candid on how the team didn't live up to expectations but was pretty damn proud of their accomplishments. He put a nice finishing coat on the season. That said, Beck needs to have his face out there with words of encouragement to Buckeye Nation. A little bit of ownership and humility may do his reputation some good. I'm sure its no secret to him that the fans are calling for his job on social media. He needs to come out and say things like, "2016 is going to be a great year for JT. We're really going to work hard this off season and ensure I get better on play calling and the offense can execute better than we did last year."

He's so shrouded in mystery and hidden from cameras that its hard to get a full picture. Make this guy available to the media the way Warinner was/is.

If, when he finally shows up, he's wearing some dopey cowboy hat, Buckeye Nation is gonna lose it.

Was going back through Urban's book earlier tonight and transcribing notes from the pages I'd dogeared - this paragraph stuck out. Remind me again why this guy is still here?

"If players are going to make the big push to join the elites, they need to believe it will be worth it. It’s important to remind them of the quality of leadership at Ohio State - let them know they are being taught by masters of their craft who have made a significant difference in other players’ lives. I make sure that my assistant coaches showcase the achievements of other great players they have worked with. Visuals such as videos and images are incredible tools to convey a message. It may not seem like a big deal, but these sorts of associations are important. It’s not about bragging. It’s about reinforcing that this is a special place that has produced special players. It’s about motivating the 80 percenters. When I walk into my own office and I see championship trophies, photos with presidents, keepsakes, and mementos and clippings of the Heisman Trophy finalists and winners I’ve coached, I feel good. If a prospective recruit is motivated by wanting to be part of that club, well, that makes me feel good, too."

Oh, I'm pretty certain that Urb has given Mr. Beck the 'talk'. Urb will admit his errors in hiring, but probably nothing so outright as firing the guy. That is a reflection on Urb as well, remember. For whatever reason, Withers didn't 'fit in' with what Urb wanted to do, so he was given the 'executive stiletto', and told to hunt down another job. Which he did. Demoting Beck, taking away responsibility, moving his desk to the soda room, all these things are indicative of someone on the 'outs'. Kicking Hinton upstairs is another way of doing the same thing. JT's got two years left (probably), but there needs to be getting Burrow, etc. ready to step in for JT should something happen. One might expect to see Urb doing more with the QBs than usual......dunno. Have to compliment Urb for not going through what he did at Florida, when he lost his staff, bit by bit (to promotions). I'll bet vcash that this is Beck's last year as a Buckeye coach. When the cameras panned upstairs, didn't see Beck doing too much talking, but Warriner was......

Urb will try to find a place for Beck where he can be a positive until Beck rides off into the sunset. Oh, to be a fly on the wall.......Go Bucks.
