Tiger clinches 15th WGC title in 26th career start

MARANA, Ariz. -- Not even the most unpredictable tournament in golf could keep Tiger Woods from an inevitable victory.

There seems to be no stopping him.

Stewart Cink barely put up a fight Sunday in the Accenture Match Play Championship, where Woods broke a scoring record for the fourth straight tournament, collected his fifth straight victory worldwide and didn't so much as crack a smile when someone asked him if a perfect season was within reach.

"That's my intent," he said. "That's why you play. If you don't believe you can win an event, don't show up."

Contd....

He's so good it felt like you were watching golf history when he actually 3 putted from inside 10 feet today. I bet that doesn't happen again for the rest of the year.

The best part was watching him get red assed with his driver a couple of holes later. Honestly suprised the driver shaft held up.

His tirade on sunday was classic Tiger. That guy is so intense when he is trying to win a tournament. If you missed it, someone shot a picture at the top of his backswing and he damn near pulled his shot 40 yards into a lake. He told the guy (para-phrasing) if he did it again he would break his f-in neck. I think he was trying to make an example out of the guy and set a tone for the rest of the year. It has happened to him multiple times already this year and he finally had enough. Good for you Tiger.

right on.

Any radio-hack personality who says a camera clicking in his backswing shouldn't make a difference b/c other sports have sounds going all the time is an idiot.

Andrew Siciliano made me change my dial today.

you can hit a quality shot if the noise is constant (think car alarm) before and during your swing, but when it is totally quiet and something comes up in your backswing you will flinch every time.

who is andrew siciliano?

yep

The really scary part is he played like shit(for him), and the rest of the field still could barely beat him.

Its not that they suck or that they are laying down for him, Tiger is just that much better than anyone else.

It gets even more impressive for me when you consider just how damn good everyone that plays on the PGA tour really is and that Tiger is that much better than they are.

Its amazing how focused he is. I saw him last year at the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte, NC. He was in a dead heat with Phil for the FedEx Cup at that stage (last in the season). With the crowd that was following him and the pressure that is put on the PGA golfers, it is absolutely amazing the poise he has. He was tied with Vijay going to the 14th. His presence just made Vijay fold. Tiger never blinked an eye and just keep drowning birdie after birdie. He just made everyone look like you and I look on the weekend.

Tiger Woods says he's still "in good shape," despite finishing yesterday's round seven shots behind the leader.

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Funny that Tiger Woods should describe this one pathway to winning the Masters: "Play unusual shots."
If that is the requirement, count him in. Not that anyone ever counts him out, even after he shoots an uneven 71 and leaves himself seven shots off the lead, as he did yesterday. But Woods really showed his qualification from the way he played the 18th hole, which was basically never on the 18th hole.

Tiger Woods tosses his club in frustration after his shot on the second fairway.

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Back on Thursday, which seems like months ago, the most famous and accomplished golfer in the world said this Masters just didn't seem like a Masters. It seemed more like a U.S. Open, Tiger Woods said, "because there's no roars out here anymore."
Ultimately, though, it was the Tiger himself who never did roar.
Even though he finished second at 5 under par, he never was a factor and never really made a run at the Masters that Trevor Immelman won by three strokes.

I don't know why Tiger paints himself into a corner, as he has done twice.

The last time he announced to the world that there were no weaknesses in his game and that he expected to win the major tournament the next week, Retief Goosen won the US Open.

It was silly to announce that he planned to win all the majors this year and to go unbeaten. He has been pummelled since and fails to live up to his own unreasonable expectations.

He could have won the Masters if he had just not allowed his head to take him out of it and miss those short putts. On the other hand, Immelman may not have played everything so safe either and may have scored better, but I am convinced Tiger lost this tournament, rather than being beaten.

I agree that Tiger had self inflicted issues this week. I noticed early that Tiger was on edge all week. He was letting himself get bothered by mediocre shots rather than playing on. He was complaining a lot (even by his standards) after many of his shots.

I don't know....Tiger has played great all year, and he made those statements at the beginning of the year. I don't think he dug his own grave or anything. Scott Van Pelt asked him a question and he answered it honestly.

"Can someone win all 4 majors in a year?"

Tiger says yes, would you expect him to answer differently? He's already held all 4 at one time, just didn;t do it in a calendar year. I for one don't think he'll ever do it, too many things have to go right for that to happen, but would be far from shocked if he did.

And I think it's a bit insulting to Trever Immelman who won by a very convincing margin that Tiger lost the tournament, he didn't win it. Tiger is capable of being beat when he doesn't bring his "A" game. On the flip side, no one can touch him when he does bring it. Tiger will get his rhythm back and start dominating very shortly, but it's far from shocking that the "field" won last week, especially after Tigers performance from 3 weeks ago.

When doesn't Tiger get pissed at poor shots? He's got one of the hottest tempers on tour. Tiger just hasn't played very well over his last 2 tournaments. Simple as that...it's just bad timing it happened to be Masters week.
