Since the AP poll started in 1936, what is the number of times that tOSU has finished with a perfect record in football and not won the AP national chamnpionshp?

One is correct. 1944.

1961 and 1973 were undefeated, but not 'perfect' seasons.

And the AP poll was taken after the 1971 Rose Bowl, in case somebody was thinking 1970 could be included if the only loss was after the last AP poll. :wink2:

edit - I meant 1961, it's on a piece of paper in front of me. I typed 1957 with a brain fart - I switched the non-AP title years - thanks, BKB.

What about 1961? 8-0-1

1957 - lost to TCU in the first game

For purposes of this question, an "ideal season" will be defined as one in which a major college football team went undefeated and untied, and finished #1 in BOTH major polls.

What is the most times any major college football program has had an "ideal season" since 1950, when the Coaches Poll started?

For purposes of this question, an "ideal season" will again be defined as one in which a major college football team went undefeated and untied, and finished #1 in BOTH major polls.

What is the combined total of "ideal seasons" for the football programs of Notre Dame and TSUN since 1950?
