Its official: on May 11th, 2005, the Baltimore Orioles have been anointed "the team to beat in the AL." I also like the 'hahaha!' at the end of your post ..

I think a wise man once said, "A fool hitches his ride to a baseball team based on their fortunes through May 11th. hahaha!"

That wise man was me ..
Did you not see the Orioles rip the yanks a new asshole during the 3-game sweep? Or how about the D-Rays taking 3 of 4? I'm not even an orioles fan, and you are missing my point, which is: when the the yanks play a team with a good offense, hell, a decent offense, they are going to have trouble. Btw, here's a hint to what team I love (since I was five and moved there, none of this bandwagon bs): I 'religiously' follow the only team to ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a series. (Man I love bringing that up)

Will the yanks be there in the end? I should hope so, they spent enough for it. This year could be different because, yes, they have much less trade bait.

No shit, Sherlock. Big effin' deal. Its May! It means nothing!! Do you talk all this shit when your team is up after the 1st Quarter of a football game??

This explains everything. The Boston Red Sox, the Queens, errr Kings of the Months of April/May. You finally got to shine for one October in 87 years, but I guess old habits die hard, huh? Yeah bro, keep cherishing your records on May 11th for the next 86 years. You'll need to.

And BTW, I 'religiously' follow the only team to shit on your team for the better part of a century. (Man I love bringing that up)

Brutus1: "BRIEN TAYLOR !!!!! ughh."

Brien Taylor was just bad luck. It couldn't be helped. Losing Mark Prior over a contract dispute (when you were gonna give him the money anyway) is the real crime.

UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR !!!!! It's hard to believe the Yankees ever lost out on a player because of a financial dispute.

Not really. Steinbrenner loves to woo & shell out the dough to OTHER PEOPLE's PLAYERS. If you look at his track record, he's very frugal, crotchety, drags it out, & makes a huge fuss when it comes to doling out money for his own players/draft picks.

He almost lost Bernie to the Red Sox over the same b.s., he gave Mattingly a hard time during his last contract negotiation in the '89-'90 offseason, he pissed Posada off in his arbitration hearings, and he let Pettite bolt to the 'Stros last year. In fact, the only contract negotiations with his own player that I remember going off without a hitch is Mariano Rivera.

He even bitched in the paper after Jeter & A-Rod signed their new deals with the Yankees & Rangers, respectively, because he got pissed that Tom Hicks gave away all that money, and he had to do the same with his Shortstop after the bar was raised.

He didn't have to, he could have signed Tejada for less $$

This was a few years ago before Tejada was a Free Agent. He knew he had to keep Jeter (he would've been lynched otherwise). His beef with Hicks was, 'You paid A-Rod $252 million, so now I have to pay Jeter $180 million, when otherwise I could've locked him up for $120m, $150m, whatever.'

You're killin' me here, Sloop!

I knew it was a bad omen for the Evil Empire to struggle so early when Episode III is just on the horizon...Now they are heating up again.

Never has a team gotten so little for their money and still been able to win :biggrin2: .

Revenge of the Sith opens a week from today .. the Dark Side Returns to the big screen, and the baseball diamond!

The Bam-Tino is carrying the Yanks.

Brutus1: "Not compared to Tejada at $11Mil"

I'd rather have Jeter at $30m than Tejada at $11m. You can't replace the Captain .. its like my Dad always said, there may be QB's with better numbers than Terry Bradshaw, but none with more rings.
