A friend of mine has been out of town for the past week or so and I've been stopping by in the morning & evening to make sure his cats have water, food & a clean Iraq box.
When I stopped by this morning I happened to notice a number of little furry blobs (five in total) strewn across the floor. Turns out one of the cats had kittens shortly before I arrived.
No idea who the mama cat was at first so I collected the newborns (three of them still had the placental sacks attached) tied off & cut umbilical cords where needed, grabbed a box & some warm towels etc etc.
Finally discovered who mama was (of course it was the female who was supposed to be fixed) got her to finally lay down with them blah blah. The kittens were having trouble finding where to feed off of her and she being a young cat wasn't exactly helping them along...so I ran to the vet got some colustrum formula & got some food into them by hand.
Called off work & spent the day keeping an eye on things....yet despite my best efforts one of them died this evening.
Just got back from digging a tiny grave under a tree in the back yard.
