You could make a quick run into Akron... Swensons for burgers and Stricklands ice cream near the Airport (and Derby Downs).

and the Akron Rubber Ducks stadium is one of the best baseball stadiums IMO

I have to agree... The most fun thing to do in Canton is leave town. Or so what I've been led to believe from what I've been told.

Responding to OP, Canton has these attractions you may want to explore.
Starting obviously with;
The Pro Football HOF, but would also recommend Gervasi Vineyards Piazza for a lunch or dinner experience.
The Canton Classic Car museum and McKinley Library and museum are great for car and history buffs,
And a hidden gem is the Blue Water Majesty Museum.
You can get your culture on at the First Ladies society in the city as well as the downtown Canton Arts district,
In August the Tom Benson Stadium gets busy, hosting the hall of fame NFL game, HOF induction ceremonies, and HOF parade.
Belden Village Mall is just north on 77 and by the Airport is the MAPS air museum for aviation aficionados, with lunch nearby at Twisted Olive.

Part of the HOF festivities was an amateur tennis tournament that folks from many states used to attend. My wife won it
and for years, she got calls from gals all over the country pleading with her to be their partner in member-guest tournaments...
from Utah to Vail to Atlanta... it was bizarre... they paid all expenses including a nanny...

On the flip side... all that tennis on all those surfaces ruined her knees... she's been paying the price for a long time
but damn she was good

There is a Swensons in North Canton, and 1 in Jackson.
No need to send the man to his possible death by suggesting he go to Akron.

(Canton is terrible for violence, per capita...like top 10 in the country bad)
