Things are going to get tougher

This is NOT a bit a hold me I’m scared or fire Ryan Day needs to go post.

But the entire program needs a sense of urgency and there better not be any complacency.

Day needs to nail his new hires. And he has to make staff changes.
I know that a lot of posters don't like @cdiddy70 but what exactly is wrong with his post?
We got our teeth kicked in by Michigan which should give them bonafides recruiting.
We did get our teeth kicked in by scUM. That has to help their recruiting somewhat. I note that scUM just received several CBs for a high 4* LB (.9659) from Florida.
ND hires a young cool coach to replace that tool they had. We aren’t going to dominate them in recruiting anymore. We battle them for many of the same recruits.
Marcus Freeman is a cool young coach who also happens to be pretty good at his job, which is why about 99.99% of Buckeye fans wanted him to be our DC. We weren't exactly dominating ND when Kelly was there (Lorenzo Styles, Jr., Brenan Vernon) so I don't see the situation improving with Freeman in charge.
USC hires Riley and we are already seeing impacts on our recruiting in California.
Besides poaching 5* prospects from Oklahoma (Raleek Brown, Makai Lemon, Malachi Nelson), the Branch brothers are now heavily CB'ed to USC. The Trojans should see a meteoric rise in recruiting similar to what happened at Ohio State when Urban Meyer was hired.
Miami looks like they will hire the Oregon coach, I like the new UF hire and Mullen loathed recruiting, FSU is slowly turning it around. Florida recruiting will be tougher.
It looks like Mario Cristobal will remain at Oregon, but it's not a done deal yet. Billy Napier put together three straight 10-win seasons at Louisiana ... that's Louisiana-Lafayette not Louisiana State, by the way ... so he obviously knows how to coach. I'm still not buying Florida State.
A&M is close to being elite.
Texas A+M has the #3 recruiting class for 2022, with three 5* prospects already committed and CBs for two more (Buckeye DL targets Enai White and Shemar Stewart). This on top of the #8 class in 2021. That's pretty elite, at least as far as recruiting is concerned. We'll see what all that talent looks like in a couple of years.
I think Ewers will end up at UT giving them a jolt.
Does anyone really believe that the highest-rated prospect in the history of 247 won't give Texas a jolt? Maybe not the same jolt that Vince Young (also rated a perfect 1.0000) gave the Horns in 2002, but it certainly can't hurt their program to have a 5* QB running the show.
We need to be on point. ASAP.
This is always true for every high-level entity in every field. You can't achieve greatness, much less sustain it, unless you are always at your best.

besides the fact that we've been doing this in seven hundred different threads (from recruiting to playoff to threads about other teams) and don't need another?

And yet he keeps doing it?

so they're not dead any longer (assuming they don't get iowad). A few weeks after extending the confusion over who little brother really is and setting up a game last week that could have buried his career.

Which is what makes splitting this into another topic so tedious. Of course those are big shakeups.

Had this been made in one of the many threads it would have been semi refreshing as a more constructive call to arms than some of the gnashing of teeth. Because what most of the gnashers miss is that most folks are unhappy and want change, and this was a more level headed one if it were done within bp's framework.

Jim will probably bleed assistants this off-season (gattis to Duke? or Will his red hot DC move on?)
Marcus needs to nail hires.
Lincoln needs to decide if Alex will finally start producing any defense now that he's back in the west.
Brian needs to find some people that don't hate him.
Everyone needs to nail things or fall behind. That's very true and also obvious.
Kirby is probably going to destroy the playoff field. How does he maintain after? Will he ever learn to groom top qbs? Not every year will see the opposition with 1/2 of a team.

As for buying stock in the ascension of certain coaches, like Riley, freeman or harbaugh, the Michigan hype is extremely early. It's driven exclusively by one win over a flawed OSU team that got beat up by a bad Oregon squad. It was a huge one and may transform their trajectory but they need at least a couple more wins to back up that level of optimism.

We made some serious bones in California, Florida, and Texas during an anomaly when all their flagship programs sucked.

We need to be on point. ASAP.

It would be nice if the state of Ohio started churning out more players again.
But that ship might of sailed with the population migration to the SE.

Everyone's recruiting in California is affected by the Riley hire, not just tOSU. More local kids will choose to stay home.

Otherwise, I don't see the other stuff moving the needle much. I just expect USC to get back to being USC soon.

Breathe.

Riley at USC is going to hurt the Texas schools more than anyone else imo.
