The What I Got for Christmas Thread

Saw one bar that was open on the way home coming through town, couldn't believe it myself. I find it very sad if someone has a reason, other than a sports contest, to go out and drink on Christmas.

The Library bar is open. I'll be going there later with a few friends. Our families are all out of town and my roommates are gone. I'd rather have a few drinks with friends on Christmas than sit in my empty house alone.

Some folks drink on Christmas because they have no family left. Others drink on Christmas because they just left the family.

It's 8:46 Christmas Day and I survived the perfect storm. My 82 year old mother, with the on set of dementia, and a son-in law she hates. They just left. Time for a copiuous amont of wine. cheers. merry Christmas.

My mom died at 64 and she'd only be 73 today. Count your blessings, and drink heartily.

I had been planning on getting a semi-auto BAR from Ohio Ordnance & modifying it to match the Colt Monitor specs (18" barrel, pistol grip, etc etc) except semi-only of course.

Today I opened up a big ass package to find an original Browning 1918A2.

Wow just wow.

Please do share a picture or two!

Also, what's the difference between the BAR and the 1918A2?

Oh gawd... There goes the neighborhood.

I got a few shirts from Urban Outfitters, iPod Nano, Zlatan Ibrahimovic jersey , and SR3.

Make that two Ibrahimovic jerseys. Apparently there was a lack of communication between the parents and the sister. I ain't mad though! Got the home AND the away jersey. I'm stoked.

Very Cool. I was talking to my dad and he said if what you mean by original is what we were thinking, thats potentially a really super-expensive gun. I got a Colt AR-15 A3. Can't really easily modify it, but i can build one for that.

Unfortunately I stopped posting photos of personal firearms after I had some images ganked & reposted on various shooting boards by dipshits (that's the same reason I'll never post pics of my twins or Anna on a msg board).

Also, what's the difference between the BAR and the 1918A2?
M-1918A2 is just military nomenclature for the BAR (which is just an acronym for Browning Automatic Rifle).

There is also a civilian autoloader made by Browning that they call the BAR that they brought to market in the late 60's and has absolutely nothing in common with the military BAR which was introduced at the end of WWI. Ironically I bought my dad one of the civilian BARs for Christmas a little over a decade ago.

Which is primarily why I try & avoid any confusion by using M-1918.

When I've seen them come up for auction now and again they've gone for upwards of $20k. There's no way in hell Anna paid that much and she hasn't shared the story yet...but knowing that she can charm the fur off of a bear so I'm eager to hear where she got it.

The Ohio Ordnance replicas run around $4K and are far more practical for the average person. They're semi auto only and fires from a closed bolt whereas the original A2 operates from an open bolt and is full auto only (the selector switch switches between two rates of fire).

BTW the Colt Monitor I mentioned earlier was a modified BAR designed in the 30's. It had a pistol grip, an 18" (rather than 24") barrel with a Cutts compensator to help control recoil and weighed about 4 1/2 less than the standard BAR. It was also one of the weapons used to kill Bonnie & Clyde (that one is now on display at the Texas Ranger museum in Waco).

Yep that's the model. Wood hardware not bakelite.

Thanks, wise ass. I knew someone would hit me with the inevitable, but I was expecting a "Here, let me google that for you" response.

Well as I mentioned there really is a completely unrelated civilian BAR that looks like ...

Bought myself a Fender acoustic guitar, and got some cash from the folks.

Others drink with the family or just because the family is around.

And why do people keep posting a huge picture of a station wagon poorly disguised as a Wrangler? :p

Well... The commercial said I should get a Lexus. Can't afford that, so I went with the next best thing.... A silver Jeep. I know.... It's amazing.
