The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

A couple of things I am unsure about based on snippets I have read/seen today. One is that apparently on Talking Dead that Kirkman apparently said that Lori's reaction to the news of Shane's death was supposed to be her horror at having caused it all between the 2 of them, and I have read others saying she was supposed to be more upset at her some being the one to cap Shane after he got Rick-Rolled (whole loss of innocence thing, or whatever)...either that is all lies to cover a shitty scene or that was some of the worst acting I have ever seen, because none of that was conveyed...at all. It looked like a hormonal bitch pissed off that her husband killed off her side order of mancakes, right after she told him to...which might make her the most annoying character on all of TV. And as they say in the pro wrestling biz, that's not good heel heat, that's change the channel if you see her heat.

Also I guess Mazarra said that the heli in the opening scene was actually a flashback to season 1, and that the animal they were feeding on was Rick's horse he had used when he arrived in Atlanta, meaning it jumped all the way back to then...how the fuck does that timeline work out? I don't know how long the show has been going on, real time, since then, but 1) it seems like it took the walkers an awful long fucking time to wander the short distance to the farm, and 2) wouldn't that mean the others were still in the city? Why would they magically be wandering off then? And what about the camp they had? The walkers overran that...was that a different herd? Just seems kind of disjointed.

Also it was confirmed by Kirkman that the closing shot was "The Prison" so I guess that's where most of season 3 will be taking place, based on the comics. I have higher hopes for season 3, they have missed a ton of opportunities with the first 2 seasons, but if they can tighten the narrative a bit, and if most of the season takes place in one closed area (The Prison) then they can make a more action-oriented show with a more managable budget then they can on an open farm.

Also for those Merle fans out there, it has been confirmed he is back in season 3.

I think the herds just keep moving around looking for food. Plus it is getting colder and possibly migrating south (that is just a guess though based on the fact that they all have fevers). Considering how walkers aimlessly meander about and are not one cohesive group, I didn't find it all that hard to believe that it A) Took them that long to reach the farm, and B) That a separate small herd of walkers overran the camp earlier. All in all, I thought the beginning did a fairly decent job of showing that it took awhile for the walkers to get there...I don't think the farm is right next door to Atlanta. They mentioned several times how secluded the farm was and given the swamp around it, I found it fairly believable that it took that long for the walkers to reach the farm en mass.

what I'd like to see is a series of origin stories, I'd love to know how these characters survived the initial Walker outbreak. It would give the show a chance to bring back Shane and Dale for one episode or so. And bring back Meryl. Not that I really care about Shane or Dale, but it would make for some good flashback shows. Or even some Webisodes.

Merle/Meryl/whatever will be back.

possible spoilers ahead

So what if The Walking Dead's second season just ended last night? That doesn't mean we can't obsess over all the season-three spoilers we got during the record-breaking (9 million viewers, wowzers!) finale.
Plus, we take a look at other plot points and characters that are confirmed for season three, and we're going to speculate on some burning Walking Dead questions that left us hanging. Warning: There be spoilers ahead!

1. Meet Michonne! Last night when the audience thought that Andrea (Laurie Holden) was done for, along came a machete-wielding, chained-up-zombie-dragging cloaked bad ass to the rescue. Hello, Michonne, one of the comic book's favorite characters. Right after the episode aired, executive producer Robert Kirkman announced that Treme actress Danai Gurira will be playing the pivotal role in season three.

2. The Governor Cometh: The big bad villain will appear for the first time in season three, and David Morrissey has already been cast as The Governor/Brian Blake. He leads a small settlement of survivors against Rick and his gang. And if you're a fan of the graphic novels, then you know just how bad The Governor can get. Surely this character addition is one of the most anticipated storylines of season three.

3. The Gang's New Home: "There's gotta be a place not just where we hole up," Rick said to the group in Sunday's episode. "Where we fortify, hunker down, pull ourselves together and build a life for each other. We just have to find it!" Well, as we saw in the final seconds of the finale, that location just might be West Central Prison, or just The Prison. That's where the group will be for most of season three.

4. More Discoveries About the Virus: We finally discovered the secret Rick was keeping since leaving the CDC: Everyone is infected. You don't have to get bitten or scratched to become a zombie! Hopefully in season three we get more answers about the virus plaguing humanity, but don't expect too much. "I like our characters being in the dark," says executive producer Glen Mazzara. "It's actually more exciting when our characters don't know what's going on and don't know if they'll ever be safe again." Another burning question we need answered: What was that helicopter that led the zombie pack to the farm?

5. Glenn and Maggie Sittin' in a Tree: One of the few bright spots of Sunday's bloodbath of a finale was Glenn finally telling Maggie he loved her. Maybe we'll see their relationship bloom even more in the third season? Surely the writers won't ignore that moment between them for long.

I have no doubts that if there are more avenues to explore to make money of this series, AMC will do it. I'm guessing Pay Per View Webisodes lol.

Liked the finale. Loved the the teaser for the new character Michonne going into season 3.

Lori/Lauri/Bitchwinkle needs to die. Holy crap is her character annoying. Maybe a different actress could make her character more bearable, but to me she is getting tiresome.

I really liked how you saw the "change" in Rick this week. He is no longer Mr. Let's Think About This, and now will be more a man of action. I do see a rebellion at some point against him in the near future, though .

As hokey as some of the subplots are, and the inconsistencies in the story line aside, this is an entertaining show that has me hooked (which is hard to do since I kind of have ADD when it comes to TV shows).

Oh, and I am glad they didn't off the blonde. She is at least nice to look at compared to the other women on the show.

Does the comic explain how Herschel stood there and fired 50+ shots from a 7+ shotgun without reloading?

While watching last night (DVR, I hate long commercial breaks), I wondered just how many shells that shotgun held since he just kept pumping and firing over and over and over. One of those inconsistencies I referred to in my previous post. Suspension of disbelief is a must for this show.

What is the point of the Zombies as pets? I just read an article that said season 3 will be a much faster pace.

*SPOILER ALERT*

The walkers cover up her smell. The cloak and hood are covered in walker blood and gore to further mask her scent. The walkers are her boyfriend and his best friend. She cut off their arms and lower jaws to render them harmless to her.

Best case, my guess is that it had a 7-round tubular magazine and you could load one in the pipe. It might've even been a 5-round mag. I think I'm going to go back and count the shots just for the fcuk of it.

I'm with you about the disbelief but, although I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, I would think that the disbelief should just get you over the big leaps that let the story actually happen. Once you're there and working within that context there shouldn't have to be technical disbelief. That (again, just my conjecture because I don't know genre specifics), ought to be one of the differences between sci-fi and fantasy.
