The very moment I became a Pittsburgh fan caught on film

It was the first Super Bowl I ever remember watching. It was this instant, capture in time here:

That I became a Steelers fan.

12, 34, 88, and 82 helped.

It's impossible for a 8 year old to be a bandwagon jumper.

No, it isn't. That's the most susceptible time for someone to jump on the bandwagon. When I was 8, Joe Montana was winning Super Bowls. Wanna know who the popular team was in my classroom growing up in Columbus? 49ers.

I've tried to theorize how so many Steeler fans live in Columbus. It's not a Pittsburgh thing, because no one is a Pirates' fan. So the only thing I'm left with is the residual 70s bandwagon. A lot of people grew up in Midwest in the 70s watching the Steelers and Cowboys, then sucked up through the 80s, and were loyal enough to be rewarded again in the 90s and 00s - and, unfortunately, they passed it on to their kids. So now, I'm surrounded by Steeler fans.

Well, in my defense, I was living in New York at the time.

The Stillers just seem to have a pretty broad appeal nationally. Even when I lived in St. Louis and now Colorado Springs, there are/were plenty of Pittsburgh fans. There is a core group of NFL teams that tend to branch out nationally (obviously there are peaks and valleys in some of their popularity)...Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders, Browns and Packers.

Allegheny County is what, the 2nd oldest county in all of the country? All the young people move out of Pittsburgh after having being raised there. And, they retain their fandom outside of Pittsburgh.

I'd say the point is, success breeds more fans. Of course kids will choose a "winner" (or the home town team) they see a lot. If Pittsburgh had not won 4 SBs in the 70's, I probably would not have been a fan. Of course, I've also adopted the Browns and that puts me in an uncomfortable position. Fortunately for me, I don't take pro football as seriously as College, and thus I don't have a personal problem rooting for separate rivals despite the fact that no "born and bred" Browns fan could ever accept that. (and understandably so)

Edit: More important for me - with regard to Cleveland v. Pittsburgh - is that I can't stand Cincinnati.

Yeah, the moment I knew that I would always be a Browns fan was witnessed by my 12 year old eyes and also caught on film too.

Much later in life, I found this pic of Steelers fan.

While even though she "supports" a bad QB, a better graphical reason to remain a Browns fan is
