David Padgett Reportedly to Be Named Louisville Interim Head Coach

The Louisville Cardinals will reportedly name assistant David Padgett as their interim head coach "in the coming days" following Rick Pitino's ouster amid an FBI probe into corruption in college basketball, according to Rivals' Corey Evans.

Padgett, who was a three-year starter under Pitino between 2005-2008, has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach and the program's director of basketball operations.

.
Despite the turmoil, Louisville interim president Greg Postel told reporters Thursday he thinks the program can succeed during the 2017-18 campaign.

"We're intending to have a robust men's basketball season," Postel said, according to the Associated Press' Gary B. Graves. "I don't see why that would not be the case. We have an excellent group of players and they are the ones that play the games. So I don't know why we wouldn't have a basketball season."

Great article on the sham of Louisville's "success" in athletics complete with sticking KY taxpayers with a potential billion dollar tab. That sh!thole is indicative of everything wrong with American higher education. And can we jazz up their thread title? I like the below from the espn article's header.

How a midlevel school became The University of Adidas at Louisville

And did this guy ever work for JoePed because he seems like a model student.

Charming and warm one minute, he is sometimes defensive and suspicious. As athletic director, Jurich rarely texted or used email, fearful it could be used against him. "Why have more fodder for people?" he says. "You know how I communicated with people? I picked up the phone, and I went to their face."

University of Louisville football recruit shot and killed in Orlando

An 18-year-old University of Louisville football recruit was shot and killed in Orlando on Saturday night, police said.

Dexter Rentz and three others were shot just after 11 p.m. Saturday, Orlando Police Department Sgt. Joe Capece said. Rentz, a football player at Ocoee High School in Orlando, signed with the Kentucky university as a wide receiver in December. "We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dexter Rentz," University of Louisville football coach Scott Satterfield said in a tweet.

"He was a great young man who had a contagious personality and able to light up a room with his smile," Satterfield tweeted. "He was a great kid to be around and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Rentz family during this extremely difficult time."

Just sayin': Shaq's wealthy and can easily afford it; however, so are a lot of other people. Shaq "stepped up to plate" on this and none of the others did. Shaq has a history of other "do good" stories too, a couple examples:

QB Luke McCaffrey leaving Louisville Cardinals' football team, months after transfer from Nebraska Cornhuskers

Quarterback Luke McCaffrey is leaving Louisville's football team several months after arriving from Nebraska.

Cardinals coach Scott Satterfield told ESPN Louisville's The Deener Show on Wednesday that McCaffrey decided to depart after spending several days working out with the team. McCaffrey in February announced he would be transferring to Louisville. McCaffrey, a son of former NFL player Ed McCaffrey and a younger brother of Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, appeared in seven games for Nebraska in 2020, starting two.

McCaffrey, a redshirt freshman last season, was set to compete with Malik Cunningham, Louisville's returning starter at quarterback, as well as veteran backup Evan Conley.

"Started working out Wednesday with the team, and then after the week, those three or four days, decided this wasn't the place for him," Satterfield told ESPN Louisville. "His big thing that he wanted to do was come in and play and be a starting quarterback, and I guess after three or four days decided that maybe wasn't going to happen here.
