Underwoods update

Duane is reporting on BN that after speaking with the family apparently EJ is doing quite well in school this semester, and should hopefully be back this fall.

Also, Brandon apparently was not held out for grades but solely for a shoulder injury.

Take this info FWIW.

Hope that is true. Would be great to see both these kids back for their own sake, the sake of the team and one other important reason.

The program is now judged by the NCAA on graduation rate. Every kid we lose from any class regardless of talent level is a big hit. (That is why I was tickled to see Maupin in uniform in the Spring game as well.)

Great news.

hope he finally lives up to his potential and is a major contributor

With Jamo coming in we could have a nice selection of candidates at that other corner spot (Underwood, Welch, Lane, Everett). Someone from that group is going to get it done.

Also, am I correct in understanding that he did not play at all last season and therefore has two years left?

No he played last year at beginning of the season. He's a senior.

Who does this refer to, EJ in 2003, after the "BBQ sauce" incident?

2004 he nearly singlehandedly cost us the Purdue game.

In 2003, he played through the BGSU game at least before cutting his hand. I remember talk about him possibly receiving a med redshirt, but it was awhile ago.

The official site is listing EJ as having played in 11 games and recording 29 tackles. If my memory serves me correctly, he started quite a few games. Maybe you're thinking of Brandon. He didn't play this year.

They also say that he played in 5 games in 2003 before the "injury." Only 15 minutes combined, though.... so I dunno if that qualifies as a medical redshirt case.

EJ should only have one season left now.

Oh man, that backside blitz in the Purdue game (in the redzone to boot) about made me want to jump off a bridge. EJ had a clean shot on Orton's spine and TOTALLY whiffed.

That being said, I wish the best for both brothers and would love to see them both get some PT this year (if deserved of course).

If I remember correctly, don't they (the Underwoods) have a professional trainer/coach that works with them on their DB skills. I think Duane said something about that one time, although I think he said in Louisianna, not Arizona.

I do have one notsogood experience with the Underwoods I'd share, but I don't know which forum would be the correct place for that.

Share away.

To me EJ seemed to play scared. Rarely looked back at the QB, while covering his reciever. However, Out of all the CBs he seems to be more of a pure corner. Height, speed, ....just hope he can play with in himself and be the shutdown corner that we all expect out of him. Maybe they should ask Winfield's for some pointers.

Can anyone provide a short summary of this premium BN article?

Teaser: One of the few concerns for Ohio State heading into the 2005 season is depth at cornerback. However, if EJ and Brandon Underwood return to the team and play up to their potential, the Buckeyes should be just fine at corner. We tracked down Reverend Underwood for an update on his sons.
