The Spring Game: Saturday, April 16, 2022

ScriptOhio

Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.

While it had been speculated about when the Buckeyes would play the 2022 spring game, it was confirmed on Friday that the contest will take place on Saturday, April 16. Ohio State announced 2022 coaches clinic, which will take place in the two days prior to the spring game, as well on the day of the contest.

The Scarlet and Gray's spring practices do not have a start date at this point, but the expecations is those will begin in early to mid-March. Ohio State is permitted 15 spring practices over a 29-day period by the NCAA. Ohio State's spring break, which typically leads to a pause in spring practice, is from March 13-March 20.

If they play touch football again, don’t expect much of an improvement on the defensive side of the ball or the running game.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think that the Spring game is the time to see improvements on the defense. Its just a time to spend a few hours watching some of the new players, and seeing the recruits who show up. Last thing we need is Jack Sawyer laying out Treyveon Henderson and possibly injuring him

Normally I'd agree and maybe they can tone down the hitting but otherwise they need to go full go to see who is picking up a brand new defense with a whole new staff imo. Dont need any QBs getting hurt or huge hits happening but that defense is going to be a lot more complicated than the one we were using before. I doubt it can be fully implemented this year especially if they dont go all out from the jump. I guess full go on the lines and blocking schemes but half go on the tackling.

Going into 2021, we had a new QB, questions at: OL, RB, DT, LB, CB and S. And we still played 2 hand touch. We also had a question mark regarding our defensive staff coming off of a blowout NC loss. I don't see the spring game strategy changing all that much this season, regardless of the new coaches. Coming out of this spring game with minimal to no injuries is the key

I don't think fear of injuries helps us this year. If I were running things, after an intense and demanding spring, we'd do a full-on scrimmage for a half and then work on correcting what we see in the second half with no contact or just wrapping up. I hate half-speed tackling sessions and think they're more dangerous than live speed.

spring practices can occur over a 34-day period, with no more than 20 hours of team activities per week. Teams may practice 15 times over those 34 days; of those 15, 12 may involve contact; of those 12, eight may involve tackling; and of those eight, three may involve 11-on-11 scrimmages.

Ohio State is opening spring practice on Tuesday (March 8th), the school announced.

The Buckeyes will also work out on Thursday (March 10th) before taking the following week off as part of the university’s spring break.

Following their return on March 22, they will hold three practices per week over four weeks in the leadup to the spring game.

The dates for the other spring practices are March 24, 26, 29 and 31, and April 2, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13 and 15.

The annual intrasquad scrimmage at Ohio Stadium will be held at noon on April 16.
