The Real Guy Incognito

I work in Stamford, CT and we just went to lunch at Bobby V's. Bobby Valentine was there, and we chatted it up a bit.

Real nice guy, we were trying to figure out if there was a team in baseball history with 4 Gold Glovers in one year on the same Infield.

Did you tell him you're a Yankee fan, Sloop? :wink2:

Sounds like a pretty cool experience though. Did you get a chance to talk about anything else?

Catcher and Pitcher count? or jsut 3,4,5, and 6?

I can think of one with 3, at 4, 5 and 6.

OB: "Did you tell him you're a Yankee fan, Sloop?"

No, but I was inclined to ask him why he made the dumbest move I've ever seen in the 2000 World Series. Didn't ask him tho'.

"Did you get a chance to talk about anything else?"

Nah, I wished him good luck in the upcoming season. He's quite the chatterbox.

AKAK: "I can think of one with 3, at 4, 5 and 6."

All in the same season?

AKAK: "Pretty Sure the Oriole in the 70's did that at least once... Grich, Robinson and Belanger."

They did it at least 4 times. George Scott took home the GG at 1B in those years to avoid the full sweep.

The Cards were close in '02 with Vina, Renteria, and Rolen all taking gold gloves. Like AKAK said, the Tribe did it back in '00.

The O's did it back-to-back-to-back ('73-'75) with Grich, Robinson, & Belanger. The O's also had 3 gold glove winners in '70 & '71 with Johnson, Robinson, & Belanger.

I can only give about a third of that Rolen Gold Glove to the Cards.:wink2:

I got to watch those guys in '02 live a lot, and it was a helluva infield. Cards let all military members in free to all the home games in Busch except postseason (but I did score tickets to game 3 of the '04 series). Great atmosphere, St. Louis is an awesome baseball town and a classy organization. I've been to over 100 games the last three years, sadly I don't think they'll be doing it next year when they open the new park :( .
