The "Raptor" joins the US force

130 Million a pop, of a drastically reduced build count? That sounds about right.

As much as the F-22 is valued those same shows Thump mentioned earlier also give high plaudits to the F-35 for its potential to work under difficult conditions as a more capable replacement for the Harrier. That's working where there are no clean long runways using its STOL / VTOL capability, plus deliver higher top speed than the Harrier itself.

you've gotta be a marine .

as far as the commanche is conscerned, aren't most anti air weapons that would be the biggest threat to helos heat seaking and spray n pray? granted the commanche had very good heat systems but... i never really understood the thought process behind a "stealthy" aircraft that will spend much of its life flying in areas where mark 1 eyeball is generally more effective than radar anyway...?

One evening this summer I was playing a softball game an campus when three fighter jets rocketed through the sky right above us. They came out of nowhere, and I almost shit myself. It was unbelievable. I think they were doing a flyover for the Red Sox game, but I could have sworn we were being attacked! It made me realize how the Iraqis must feel with those flying overhead every day.

I would see them quite a bit when I lived in Tucson, but they never flew that low over the city.
